Okay, so breaking news might be a slight exaggeration…. But remember the interview? It was published in this week’s paper and you can see the article online here. (Scroll down to see the article after you click the link.) Let me know what you think!
And this picture is of a “snowman soldier” and I would explain that but I don’t understand it either….. (Yesterday was another snow day off school.)

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

Neat snowman soldier, by the way. But the kids got a day off school for that bit of the white stuff? Lucky them!
Hmm, the university at which I work hasn’t closed once this year, even though other universities in Ontario have during particularly bad storms. And our public transit hasn’t stopped running, either. Boohoo for me!

I just love your blog. You’re living my rural fantasy life! I enjoy the humor and the depth. And I always enjoy good writing. I like the Dandelion blog too. I’m learning a lot from it.
In case Jim Cooper reads the comments from this post, (I suspect he will,) I wanted to say thanks for getting the article posted on the net so Suzanne’s fans could enjoy it! Jim, you’re a fine writer yourself!

As for chickens in the road–I grew up in rural Arkansas, and there were chickens in the road, and you tried very hard not to hit them. They were what put breakfast, and baked goods on the table. My mother killed and cleaned one for lots of Sunday dinners. That’s the noon meal in the country.
Over in NorthWest Arkansas, the financial folks, at one time, used what they called dead chicken economics to do their forcasting. It seems that when chickens are transported, some manage to get out of the coops. When times are good, you see them lying dead on the road. When times aren’t so good, there are none, because people stop, pick them up, take them home, clean them and eat them.

Mike was cute… he brought home the paper last night and proudly handed it to me and said “see anybody you know?!?”
