Christmas Card

Dec
24

Before I started making Clover wear Santa hats and other nonsense at Christmastime, I had babies. Human babies. They feel Clover’s pain each year as they must endure their own in my endeavor to achieve the official Christmas photo.

Though I think it’s Morgan who actually endures most of the pain.

Judging by the look on his face, Ross might be a close second.

He’s thinking about boot camp, wondering if he can volunteer to go back in exchange for his freedom from this photo session. We don’t know what Weston is thinking about, but it looks scary. Morgan is…. Morgan. A cheerful girl! And we don’t know why since everyone just beat on her, but that’s Morgan!

And just when I think all is hopeless, there’s that magic moment when everyone cooperates at once.

And everyone smiles.

And we even coax out Ross’s dimples.

And then everyone is free.

Until next year….

….by which time, they hope to be adopted.

Suzanne, they have gotten so big! How does that happen? Where are those little kiddos? Isn’t it fun though to have “adult” offspring? Glad Ross was able to come home for a bit.

Making memories–awesome! Reminds me of my daughter who went through the same antics with her 3 older brothers. She always had the last “hit” or “word”—and still does, even at age 32.

We take the annual Christmas photo every year. Of course there is always the clowning around. It always takes many shots before the ultimate one is chosen. We enjoy looking back through the years. Merry Christmas Suzanne and family. Thank you for all the work you and your helpers put into “Chickens in the Road.” We love you!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
