Mom, I Wrecked the Car

Not one of those phone calls you ever want to get. Seems as if it was only last Tuesday when I was posting that Ross had gotten his driver’s license. Yes, wow, it WAS only last Tuesday. He got his license on Monday and he totalled my car on Wednesday. THAT DIDN’T TAKE LONG.

He was okay, though. That’s the good news and the most important thing. My car… Not so okay. He said he looked away from the road for a second, lost control, hit the guard rail, and spun the car around nearly backward before he could stop. In a state full of twisty turny roads, there wasn’t even a curve involved. The accident happened on a straight stretch.

That’s his dejected little self sitting on the guard rail here to the right wondering when he will ever touch car keys again.

We were supposed to be, at that very moment, on our way for a long weekend starting Wednesday after school rather than at the side of the road with cops and paramedics and tow people. Luckily, no other cars were involved in the accident and no one else was in the car with him. Needless to say, we didn’t get off on our trip til Thursday morning when I was able to get a rental car.

I’m printing these pictures to tape to the dashboard in my new car so that when Ross gets behind the wheel, he is reminded that he is not invincible.

Sunrise at Myrtle Beach.

I was really ready for some of this after that.

Now we’re back and I’m car shopping……….

So glad your son is okay! A week to the day, huh?

    THUD

Suzanne, I’m glad that he is okay. That was incredibly fast. Not sure it was a speed record from license to wreck, but it’s close. *g* Again, glad he’s okay and that there was no one else involved. I bet the beach looked good after all that. 🙂

  5. Cheryl S. says:

Glad your son was ok. Cars can be replaced. Hard lesson to learn but I’m sure he’ll be paying much closer attention from now on.

You’re going to let him drive again? If my son does that, :fan: he’s back on the bicycle, which makes me nervous enough as it is. 😮

sure glad he’s okay. now that said, I’d want to ground him lol. my oldest has got hit from behind, not her fault but her boyfriend hit someone and it was his fault with her car! Then my youngest got smashed from a 16 yr. old with a license for a week. scary stuff. both my girls were 18 before they drove.I really don’t think they quite get it yet – they think they’ll live forever at this age.

  12. Dru says:

I’m so glad that your son is okak. Someone was really looking out for him. I’m sorry about the damage to your car, but that can be replaced. I like the idea of putting the pictures on the dashboard.
