Today, I want to thank you all so much for all of your support. The best readers in the world are right here. I love you guys! Eat, drink, and be merry today! Especially pie. Eat a LOT of pie. (I know I will.)
To add to your holiday spirit, I have a little farm animal video montage for you. Just a little peek of what I see every day when I walk outside. And I even forced myself to be in it for like two seconds. I’m SHY! Do I look uncomfortable in front of the camera? I am. I was born to be behind the camera. But one of my goals in the next year is to make more videos, and better videos, and get over my phobia about being on camera. Here goes–enjoy! (Seen here: My chickens, who chase me because they THINK I have cracked corn all the time even though I ONLY have it at night; Poky, in one of her “I was born to run” moods where she does laps around the goat yard; my sweet Little, napping under my sewing box; Clover, being her usual superior self; my dear little lonely duck; the crooked little hen on the porch; and me.)
The time we went to my Oklahoma grandmother’s house. She was pretty old by then. She had left all the food sitting out for days before we got there. (We found out later.) We all got sick. I searched in her medicine cabinet and found a box of Pepto-Bismol pills. We all took them. Then we read the little foil packets she had put inside the Pepto-Bismol box. Ex-Lax. IN HER PEPTO-BISMOL box. I really shouldn’t continue this story any further.
My mother would sing hymns in the kitchen when she was cooking, especially when fixing holiday dinners. I always think of that when I’m fixing holiday dinners. (My father was a preacher man. When I was growing up and we’d sing in church, people used to ask me why I never used the book. I knew all the hymns by heart. I went to church 5,490,286 times when I was growing up.) Those are the things that make up our memories, even when we think our parents are so weird.
I hope you have a wonderful day! I hope you make great memories. Do something weird in front of your kids today. Don’t get iced in. And please, please read all medicine packaging carefully!

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

I thought you looked fine on camera. I really think you did a great job on your Sam-e video. I thought you narrated it beautifully and you looked very much at ease in your appearance in the end.
Off to vote – I am up way too late tonight (which explains the brain fade I just had when I posted this on yesterday’s comments).
Happy Thanksgiving!

Another dating story….we were at my grandparents house and everyone was raving about her stuffing. After dinner, my then boyfriend and I went for a walk, and said he couldn’t understand the fuss about the stuffing (not exactly in those words)_..I said Oh everyone loves gramdmom’s oyster stuffing, and the boyfriend looked positivily ill. Hated seafood!

Loved the video……..great start to my day! Family is looking like they’re waking, but I had to take my time to get my “Chicken” time! Cocoa has a playmate her own size!! Loved it!

Thanks for the video…though I would have freaked out if the chickens were chasing me. As a child I was fascinated with old Aunt Jettie’s flock, but Mom always warned that they would “flog” me…so I developed a fear of them.
Wishing you and yours the happiest of Thanksgivings!

Thanks Giving stories. One year my mom cooked dinner for all of us after I got married. We are waiting for the turkey to get done. She did not want the turkey drippings and stuff to leak down to the bottom of her stove from the disposible pan. So she put the pan on one of those cookie sheets that is an even flow. It had a space in between the layers to promote even cooking and not to burn cookies. But it also did not get hot enough to cook the turkey in a timely manner. That was the year of “was the turkey done enough or not” Some went into the microwave just to make sure. lol. Then the next year her oven broke over Thanksgiving and did not get hot enough. Again almost raw turkey. We tease mom about not being able to cook turkey. lol. She is a great cook. But darn those turkeys always get the best of her. Needless to say we spend several Thanksgivings eating out becuase of this. lol.

My own memories include an aunt, just married that couldn’t boil water deciding to have the family over for her first Thanksgiving. Not much happened – except – she set her oven on fire, burned part of the dinner and didn’t have enough places for everyone to sit. Did I mention she was a new bride. lol

Love your video! Thanks for sharing your staff with us! I’ve got my peeps voting for you now! I’m so excited! I just voted and was number 15784.:shimmy:
Your Thanksgiving memories are priceless. We used to get sick eating at other’s homes for the holidays. Until we discovered that they too leave their food sitting out all day! Now, I make my own and I don’t eat at their houses.

So, now that I’m grounded, having had my dose of “feel good” here, I’ll get back to cooking. Not a great cook, but I make one great dish (other than pie). It’s a casserole with a touch of stuffing base topped with sautéed onions, green peppers, zucchini, mushrooms and tomato, all seasoned with thyme and topped with melted swiss.
Congratulations to the lucky calendar winners. And to Suzanne and everyone here, have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And if you’re from somewhere other than the US, have a great day!
If I can get my sister’s Internet working, I’ll click back here later and share your video with my family. I know they’ll love it. Some of us are city through and through, but I think that almost everyone has a little touch of “country” in them when it comes to enjoying the simples pleasures in life. Chickens in the Road is like a daily meditation. When you walk away from the computer, you feel ready to face the world.
