My Dear Desdemona

Nov
19

My little buddy.

I know I shouldn’t have favorites. I try not to say it in front of the other cats. But the inimitably sweet and mischievous Desdemona is special.

Or was.

She was hit by a car yesterday morning. I miss her something fierce.

Requiem in posts and pictures–here and here and here.

Update–thank you, everyone, for all your kind comments and condolences. Hugs to you all!

Several years ago, our beloved cat died. Although other cats have entered our lives (and a human child) shw will always be our first baby. On a cold January day seventeen years ago, a new guy in the grad program I was in stopped by my apartment to see my new kitten (about three weeks old-the department chair let me go home early to feed my baby-he fed her, and she fell asleep in his lap-he was hooked on us both after that)

    I still have her bear.

    I still miss her.

Once again, in honor of all the great animals in our lives, we will sponsor an adoption from our local shelter. We have four pets, our city in its great wisdom, allows three per household. We can’t take any more.

But, we can help another family find the comfort a furry friend can deliver.

Oh how horribly sad  My condolences, Suzanne.

One of my ferals was hit by a car as a kitten – only 7 months old and it was 10 years ago and I still feel bad – I took his brother in and the fact that I can’t bring them all inside is hard.

    So sorry about Desdemona.
I had to have 2 of my cats put to sleep in the last 4 months— cancer. I miss them. They were part of the family.

Oh Suzanne- I am so sad and so sorry. And Kailee- well, Kailee is just devastated. She may never forgive me for not trying harder to take Desdemona home with us in August. I am so sorry for all of you. RIP, Sweet Desdemona.

 Oh, Suz. I’m so very sorry. I’m having a terrible time dealing with the loss of my 20 year old Siamese so I know just how you feel. I hope Desdemona has crossed the rainbow bridge and is playing with Damian.

    Congrats, Ericka!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
