She’s Been Busy

May
23

Busy killing birds!!!! And she doesn’t look like she feels a bit guilty.

She belongs on this Weird Wednesday site with all the other Cats With Serious Attitudes.

You’ve never seen a more dedicated cat. She spends HOURS, literally HOURS, sitting at the base of the tree where I hang my birdfeeders.

Waiting.

Months go by.

There’s Spice. Sitting at the base of the tree. Like a statue.

When she’s not doing that, she’s chasing butterflies.

And catching them.

And bringing them in the house to show me.

Then tormenting them while she tears the wings off one by one until she’s all tired of them and lets the other cats have a turn.

Doesn’t she know I LIKE birds and butterflies?

And WHY does she have to bring them in the HOUSE???

Nughty kitty!!! Sadly, my cat does the same thing as it is natural for them, then they bring their prize inside for praise as to what a great hunter they are. My cat feels anything on our property is fair game for her; she also, for some reason, will not put one paw off our property; she knows just where she can go and what is her area to hunt and protect…amazing to me. She is our great hunter and also loves to ride on our tractor and in our car. Maybe she thinks she is part dog or something.

At least she isn’t dumping live bunnies at your feet the way mine used to. He was so mad when I released the bunnies into the yard.

It wouldn’t be any fun for her if she didn’t bring them in the house! :rotfl:

I know that it is their nature to hunt and kill, but I hate it when my Trudie brings me her latest prize. Monday, she brought me a yellow finch.
But in the past three weeks she has presented me with a baby bunny, one green lizard, 2 black lizards, a cardinal, 2 field mice, a chipmunk and the finch. Oh! And a baby snake.
I have learned not to blindly let her in the door before making sure she is not “carrying”.
So she just leaves her prezzies on the front porch.
Did I ever tell you about the time I stepped on a disemboweled (still warm) field mouse. Barefoot?
Brrrrrr! I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.

I don’t have inside/outside cats. One or the other so I don’t have the problem of them getting into the house. I used to chase even the outside cats (who thought I went nutso) when I saw them with a bird or bunny but I learned the hard way that the damage is already done when they have them by the neck and thus a slower death for the poor things. Now I just refuse to look outside ’til they’re done.

after she catches the small animals, that may or may not be dead, what do you (or the cat) do with them?

See mom? She’s protecting your bird feeders from the evil seed stealing birds!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
