Dateline: Reno

Reno!!!! Last week was fabulous fun. I arrived in Reno on Wednesday, July 27th. Jill picked me up at the airport and zipped me straight over to the hotel where we sat down for a quick dinner and drink with Kacey and Michelle . Pictured (L to R): Kacey, Jill, me. (Michelle arrived late and missed this pic.)

A room–a suite–with a view!!! Gorgeous mountains and an awesome view of planes taking off and landing at the airport. It was cool.

BEARS!! Jill wasn’t kidding. There ARE bears in the Sierras!!!! Even in the hotel!! I karate-chopped this one before it could eat Kacey. Whew. Good thing I’ve been working out.

The literacy signing was so much fun! I loved seeing so many friends, readers, and writers! Left: the incredible, amazing reader diva Alyssa with her infamous cart! Right: Juanita didn’t have a cart, but look at that fabulous smile!

More friends! Cynthia and her lovely family! And friends made at last year’s Moonlight & Magnolias conference in Atlanta, gorgeous Gena and equally gorgeous LaShon.

Old friends– Mary , and new friends– Loreth .

Famous faces–Teresa Medeiros, and romance icons–Nora Roberts!

Fun friends– Sasha and Sylvia , and shy friends who didn’t want me to take their picture– Kara .

:guitar:What a blast!!! I couldn’t possibly post all the photos from the literacy signing here, so the entire photo report from Wednesday is here on my photoblog! Celebrity stalkings include: Jayne Anne Krentz, Debbie Macomber, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Geralyn Dawson, Suzanne Brockmann, and more! And these are JUST the pictures from Wednesday!

Winners from yesterday’s contests–drawn randomly by comment number: Writers’ giveaway: Biddy. Readers’ giveaway: May. (Email me with your addresses!)

Check back tomorrow for more pictures and Thursday’s report from the RWA conference in Reno! I’ll be adding daily to the pictures on the photoblog.

So, you karate chopped the bear before it could get to Kacey, but I noticed from Jill’s pictures that you let two of them sneak up on her:razz: Loved the pictures! I also visited your cat photos – Buttercup is cute. Reminded me of a cat I knew that had never been outdoors. My cousins had a problem with mice in their new (old and pre-restoration) home – so they set out humane traps. Every morning they got up and the traps would be overturned and empty. Seems the cat let the mice go at night so that she could play with them. Actually saw her play with one once – she’d play a little, stop and groom, and then look back for the mouse, which by that time had scampered away. She looked simply confused.

If there isn’t a picture of the author in the back of a book I’m reading, I always wonder what they look like. Your pictures tell me:bananadance:

Thank GOODNESS Suzanne saved me from that horrible bear ATTACKING me!!:fryingpan: She is a GOOD FRIEND!!! I was so scared

And her friends Gena and LaShon were so nice and friendly and cool. (I’d never met them before) Heck her other friends were cool and fun too. I think Suzanne just does fun, cool friends. (and honestly, I’m not just saying that because I’m one of her fun, cool friends… :rotfl: )

LOL–Suzanne lovely pictures but obviously when you wrote Loreth was from Australia you actually meant Canada via Africa!!!

You obviously had a ball and I’m SO sorry I only saw you once:sad: Love being reminded of the whole thing:thumbsup:

Toni, I know!! I realized that just now and had edited it out but you caught me first. Loreth can tell you that I’ve accused her of being from Australia before. For some reason, my brain is convinced she IS from Australia and it would be much easier for me if she would just move there, LOL. :wall:

Yes, Mary’s book, What To Keep, is really good! I’m lucky enough to have read it before she sold it.

Suzanne–sometimes things get hardwired into your head. I’m the same. People keep saying I’m Scottish–I’m not, I’m English, but I lived in Scotland for 12 years. Sometimes it is hard to say what you are and where you’re from without a lengthy discussion. Now I stick to British with stints in Australia and Canada. Yikes. And I’m supposed to be able to write a synopsis???:fryingpan:

Congrats to the winners of Suzanne’s prizes.

Your pictures here are great. I still have to look at your other ones but since I haven’t slept yet I’d better get to bed before I turn my internal clock completely upside down. It’s pretty well there again. It always happens when I have to clear up some mess on the computer: freezing, virus, etc. No matter how careful I am, it just keeps happening.

Did you get to meet Suz Brockmann? Just wondered. I’m going to be starting “Breaking Point” (her newest) today.

Hope you’re all set again at home.:???:

Sigrun, I didn’t talk with Suzanne Brockmann this year, but I’ve talked to her in the past. I was writing for Loveswept when she was, so I met her back then! She’s a very nice person!

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....
