Dog Gives Birth for Second Time!

This weekend, I had a date. As my date pulled up in my driveway and I went out to meet him, I heard crying coming from the goat house. This was after a couple of cancelled dates last week due to baby issues. If you’re gonna date a farmer, you better give up and go to their house.

Anyway. By the time we arrived at the goat house, Chloe was helping clean up her latest baby!

Luckily, unlike Sprite, Fanta actually wanted her baby, so I tucked the two of them in a stall in the barn (to Chloe’s disappointment).

She just had the one, and it’s a girl, too. I decided to bring Maia out to the barn.

My Precious:

She’ll have fun in the barn now that she has a playmate. Fanta won’t let her nurse on her, but I bring Maia the bottle every few hours and she comes running to me.

Next up: Nutmeg! Waiting! I know, I’ll plan a date.

That’ll schedule a delivery!

And that’s all I’m gonna say about that. Now bring on the GOAT babies!

Okay, Suzanne, please tell me you were NOT wearing your muck boots on the date!!! You just changed into them to go to the goat bar house, right???

Congrats on the new baby! Maybe Fanta will change her mind about nursing, or else Nutmeg can be bribed with cookies!

Delete the ‘bar’ . . . I need more coffee before I post!

I find the relationship between Chloe and the goats amazing! Do the goat momma’s mind her? Or are they more relaxed about their babies than horses and cows?

  6. Cheryl LeMay says:

Sooo cute. And I’m constantly amazed by your dogs that they aren’t interested in killing anything, especially newborns. Also aamazing is the fact that the mothers don’t seem to mind the dogs with their babies.

How sweet that Chloe starts taking care of the goats from the moment they’re born. She takes her job as a guardian seriously!

Nutmeg looks so much like Clover.

Can you get a shot of the side of, Maia? I’d like to get a better look at her unusual markings.

How do you teach your dogs to not chase or be too rough with the babies? My Anatolian is 16 months with baby goats due in March. She is fine with the adults but I am unsure if I should trust her with the kids. Also with two dogs do they chase each other and then try to play that way with the goats or do they know they can only do that with each other? I used to have my dog out in the yard to play with our Irish Setter but it seemed to confuse her that sometimes it was ok to play dog games and sometimes she would get yelled at. Now she is just in the yard with the sheep or goats. One more question, we just got a buck and a ram. Do you keep your with your ewes and does year round or do you separate them? I would like to keep them together if I can (goats and sheep are in seperate fields). Thanks for the advice, Moriah
