Doo-Doo Head

Why you never bring the milking lines in from the back:
IMG_6579
I milk Glory Bee’s two front quarters, bringing the lines in from the front/side. I’ve trained Dumplin to take the back quarters. When I bring Glory Bee into the milking parlor, everybody gets in position. I haven’t had to tell Dumplin which end she gets since the first week. Coming in from the front does leave me open to the random kick. (Kicking is subsiding as Glory Bee transitions into her mama milk cow role.) The trouble with the back, aside from the fact that I consider the back quarters to be Nature’s Mistake as a cow loves to put her legs together and make it difficult there, is what can happen if milking takes too long and the cow gets antsy…..

And feels like pooping.

Here (later, post-milking time when Dumplin is free-milking), you can see the evidence strewn down the back of Dumplin’s head and neck as she didn’t quite dart out of the way in time when she was taking her place from behind yesterday morning.

Gonna have to start calling her Doo-Doo Head.

To be honest I had been wondering since she was born when this would happen. I remember Grandpa swearing at his cows when this would happen. That was the only time he would swear, except one time when he installed an air conditioner for Grandma. Hahaha!

When we were growning up my dad had a favorite saying. If you got a bad deal or if things were not going right. He would say You’re were sucking hind tit. So funny, I always thought the cow gave less milk in the hind tit. Never thought about getting a poo head.

I’ve heard about getting the “hind tit” too–now I understand!!
