This weekend, I went to Soggy Bottom Farm and rode the trails with Sheila on my old friend, Sierra.
We rode out around the pasture, past the other horses.
Then onward to the steep trails.
Steep trails are a challenge to my balance. Sierra is a good “robot” horse, though, and she always makes me feel safe. The only thing she likes to do is try to turn back to the barn at every opportunity, but don’t they all.
If you don’t remember, Sheila is the wife of Mike Trader.
She kindly offered for me to come out and ride more often, which I think I will! I need the practice and it was good to have a friend to ride with. I haven’t ridden since early December. I was SORE the next day! Now that the weather is changing, I am so ready to get my Shortcake out and take her on my own trails. I need more riding practice to become more confident, and I want to get more of that practice on Shortcake here on my farm. I’ve been wishing I could get someone to come give me riding lessons right here, and it occurred to me that my hired man, Adam, is an experienced horseman so I may offer him the job.
Sometimes I try something new, and just trying it is enough. I’m always curious to learn about new things, tackle new adventures. But this horse thing……
It’s here to stay.
