When I’m a Cat

Jun

When I’m a cat,
you will see me
swishing my tail
so artfully.

If I get up,
and only then,
I will tackle
my best cat friend.

On the kitchen
counter I’ll sprawl
and spread my fur
about for all.

The porch in shade
or even sun
is where I’ll like
to sleep when done.

To sleep will be
my one career,
my job, my work,
or so I hear.

I’ll dedicate
my life to sleep,
dreaming, and, oh,
just thinking deep.

And if you should
try complaining
to me, I won’t
change one darn thing.

When I’m a cat.

    I love the kitty pictures.

I am wondering – since it is 6am here, do you get up very, very early and post, or do you post before going to bed realy realy late?

  2. happyathome says:

Yes it seems like their job is to sleep all day…..I wish mine would attempt to control the mole population! ๐Ÿ˜†

  3. Amelia says:

But don’t we love them anyway…I have three and they are certainly joys in my life…well most of the time. Sometimes they can be a headache – but not often.

  4. Kathryn says:

I like that! It even reads as if a cat is stretching. Thank you for giving me a smile to start my day. Now, off to a pile of nine, count them, nine baking sheets and assorted bowls, platters, dishes, wine glasses, and everything else that needs washing after our get-together last night. I am trying to figure out how to give my dishwasher some vitamins! It’s going to get a workout today.

  5. Blaze says:

My word you have a variety of felines!

    reminds me of home ๐Ÿ™‚

And Kathleen, she might have a set up where she logs a post and then it automatically updates it at a preset time in the morning so she could write it the day before and then it woudl “magically” appear on the interwebs later ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Kristen says:

Lazy cats…..can you imagine a life of just sleeping and eating and every once in a while getting up to play. They have it rough at your house it seems. :purr:

  7. Bertie says:

LOVE the kitty pics! We are owned by one that sorta rules the house too. (’cause ya know “we are her people, she’s not our cat! ) :purr:

  8. Suzanne McMinn says:

Yes, that’s what I do! I set my blog before I go to bed and then it posts automatically in the morning at 5 am. Otherwise, I would never have a post up first thing because I don’t get up early enough! (Though sometimes I am up til midnight trying to finish.)

  9. Tina L says:

Oh, to live the life of a cat. I am jealous. No laundry to do. No dishes to wash. That nice lady gives you food whenever you need it. If only cats could read I’d try to figure out how to be one when I grow up.

  10. Beckynsc says:

Wish I was a cat at Suzanne’s house.
I would be sure to give lots of love to show appreciation. And bring gifts often.

  11. Robin G. says:

Ah, cats. If they weren’t so good about hopping into our laps on bad days and reminding us how small our problems are in comparison with theirs, they would most assuredly all be out on the street.

  12. LinMN says:

You’re good! Four syllables to every line. That’s pretty cute! I now feel like writin’ me a poem. ;o)
All the lazy cats made me think of this old poem I found a few months ago. It would be good framed, no?

    Cats Sleep Anywhere

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open draw, empty shoe, anybody’s lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don’t care! Cats sleep anywhere.

    Eleanor Farjeon (1881 – 1965)

  13. Kacey says:

You kitties are so pretty. Ah, the life of a cat.

  14. Debbie from Iowa says:

I think my cats sleep all day so they can chase each other across on my head all night long. That and they love to run around the house all night to different windows so they can watch the racoons or whatever nightlife that is out there.

  15. Cyndi Lewis says:

It would appear that the cats rule the house! :purr: Not that that is a bad thing

  16. Ann from Montana says:

…the “artfully swishing tail” – so much fun to watch! Great photos and poem!

A friend of mine asked how to clean paws of a cat that can go in and out as she knew mine did…I replied that the paws appeard to be self-cleaning on table and counter tops…

  17. Jill S. says:

    Aw, love the kitty pics!

  18. Carolyn A. says:

Loved the little poem. And that last pic was like, “Are you looking at me?”

My friend, Roxanne, used to use hairspray to style her hair. If she would forget to brush it out at night, she’d wake up with her two kitties licking her hair on each side of her head. She said that gave her such a headache.

My sister, Susan, called me one day and said that the store cat, Knotty had two kittens. They called one “Touch” because it would let you touch it. They called the other one “GO” because it would run away when you came near it. Being it was early in the morning when she called, I heard this, “Knotty-head kittens, Touch and Go.” We laughed so hard when I repeated what I thought I heard. So now we refer to them as Touch and Go, the knotty-head kittens. xxoo

  19. Remudamom says:

    My cats add-

And you shall be at beck and call,
Anticipate needs and fill them all.
Else I shall find another place,
To call my special hiding space.

  20. tillie says:

oh, to be a cat and live with adoring humans! what a life…

  21. Susan says:

That is so true! Love all of the photos. :cattail:

  22. Karen Erickson says:

I’ve always said I want to come back as a cat. Their life is so tough. My cats do pretty much the same thing…

    :purr:

  23. Lola Falana says:

    :catmeow:

  24. Amy Addison says:

Yep, that sounds about right. :purr:

  25. Donna says:

Ohhh, how adorable are they!!!! I just want to pick one up and hug it and love in it!! If you look at the black one on the porch, he’s batting the little flower around. LOL They are so sweet! (when they are not eating my Chipmunks!!!!) arghhhh!

  26. Diane says:

Great post. I don’t have any cats but I do have a 10-year old Lhasa Apso who, evidently, thinks she’s a cat. Ah, to live the life of royalty. ::scratch my belly silly human::

  27. Shimmy Mom says:

That’s why we only have one. I couldn’t handle them sleeping all over my house at once. You are a stronger woman than I am!

  28. Brandy says:

You could have been writing and posting pictures of my seven kitties. *G* They have it made, don’t they?

  29. Crystal B. says:

Great pics. You have some beautiful kitties. ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Jodie says:

My cat will approve of your post when I read it to her later. She slept all weekend in a bathroom cabinet (mostly) to avoid my 18 mo. old grand-daughter who was visiting us for Father’s Day. She doesn’t seem to like to be around strangers, especially young ones.

  31. Estella says:

My cats lay around just like that, except they prefer the back of the couch and my bed.

  32. catslady says:

    You’re a poet and I didn’t no it
Lovely pictures and my 6 totally agree.

  33. Sheila says:

Cute pics, makes me want to curl up and take a nap.

But, I’m a dog person. I’m so happy my boxer Gabby can’t lay on the kitchen counter top. Although if she wanted to I would stain my back to get her up there. She has a perfect life, at least I try to make it that way.

  34. Jeannie in OKC says:

Beautiful, beautiful cats! Great pictures! Your calico cat looks a lot like our Visa. (She’s “everywhere you want to be.”)

We have three cats, and we love them! :catmeow:

  35. Kat Lover says:

Thanks for posting the cat pictures. I miss having kitties and always enjoy them vicariously. I plan to have some again when I am elderly. But until then…I loves me some other people’s kitties!!

  36. TeresaH says:

LOL thats a cat for you! :cattail:

  37. Kaye says:

Beautiful cats! The one in the first picture looks a lot like two of my furbabies.
