A Room With A View

My favorite room in my house is OUTSIDE my house–the screened-in porch off the master bedroom. We recently bought some new furniture for it, and the shells in the glass bowl are from our vacation on Ocracoke Island in June. Our yard is sloped, so even though our bedroom is on the first floor, since it’s at the rear of the house, it is high up above the backyard, almost like sitting in a treehouse. I love the view of trees, trees, trees, and the sound of birds and the breeze. I could sit there forever.

So what about you? Where is your favorite spot at your house?

And don’t forget the Beast is up for bidding! There are two autographed copies of the book in the Marianne Mancusi Fire Fund auction and my manuscript critique is also up on ebay now. (There are several pages of auction items, so scroll through the pages to find my critique.) The manuscript critique from agent Steven Axelrod is up over $800 now (!!!!) but I’m sure you can get me much cheaper than that.

My favorite room in the house is probably our den. It has a soft, cushy sofa, a big tv, and a coffee table for snacks. πŸ™‚

  2. mary beth says:

    gorgeous room, Suzanne.
I love my big chair, but I don’t have any favorite rooms in my house.

  3. Melissa says:

I can see why that is your favorite room, Suz. The view is absolutely wonderful!

My favorite room in this heat box of an apartment is my computer/library room. 2nd bedroom. It’s where all my books are. πŸ˜€

  4. MartyK says:

Lovely space! Currently, my favorite room in my new house is the one the cat hasn’t peed in…

  5. kacey says:

favorite room…probably my office. It’s an old converted deck..that we made into an all weather room. It has windows on three sides and looks out into the woods. Oh, and has skylights. Very light and wonderful.

  6. Eve says:

How absolutely beautiful! And look, no seagulls.

My favorite room is the library, rich hardwood floors and oak shelfs, with comfy overstuffed chairs. Fireplace and windowseats with recessed lighting … oh wait, you said my house! Now? The one I’m in at the moment? Well … I think I’d rather return to my dream house, thank you.

  7. Eve says:

Oh, and Suzanne, thank you for telling me about the auction. I am soooo screwed. At least I don’t have to worry about outbidding 800 and something dollars.:hissyfit:

  8. Sandy Jones says:

I love it! The view is fabulous and love that you are sharing North Carolina with us who have never been. My favorite part of my house is my office. It is off limits to everyone – even my husband! :whip:

  9. Suzanne says:

The $800 one is blowing my mind!!!!

  10. Eve says:

I know – I had to look the guy up to see what all the fuss was about – no wonder it’s soooo high:shock:

  11. Teresa says:

I love the room! And I just love auction bidding!

  12. Rene says:

My favorite “room” is the gazebo in our backyard. I don’t get to use it much because my kids seem to find me there. But if I’m alone…. Hubby has wired so it has a ceiling fan and lights. He also installed an outlet so I can plug in my laptop. On a good day I can get a strong signal on the wireless network and surf the web out there. If it gets cold hubby put in an outdoor heater as well. Perfect room for reading or writing.

  13. Mary says:

Beautiful room. My favorite view from our house. The living room. We’re up high and can see the whole city. At night it’s wonderful with all th lights.

  14. Mik says:

    This room is so gorgeous!

My favorite room is my bedroom. The walls are a lovely shade of green (the paint color is called Heather Mist) and we have this chair my husband built in the small sitting area. I love sitting there with a book. πŸ™‚

  15. Eve says:

    I want Rene’s gazebo:hissyfit:

  16. Estella Kissell says:

My favorite room is the 2nd bedroom. My computer and my books are in there—but my craf:hyper:t/sewing room runs a close second

  17. Toni Anderson says:

I love your room. I like our lounge, in the winter with the fire blazing and the terracota tiles gleaming–maybe I should clean them to make them do that!!

I’m sure your crit is worth more than Mr Axelrod’s Suzanne

  18. Peggy says:

That room looks wonderful! My fav is probably my office. It’s all mine and has everything I love in it.

  19. Eve says:

    I want Toni’s lounge and Suzanne’s screened in porch:hissyfit:

And Toni – (re auction) shush! Shush I tell you!

  20. Sharon says:

Ohhh love your room. I can’t imagine spending 800 dollars on a critique! ack! For that kind of cash, they better have a magic wand.

  21. Jill says:

Ooh, so pretty, I love the porch!!!

  22. Carrie says:

    Wow that’s beautiful, Suzanne!

My favorite room isn’t finished yet, but at some point in time it will be my front porch. We have an old house with a wrap around enclosed porch. That is going to be MY room! I’m putting a hammock and the pretty brown wicker furniture out there. That is just as soon as we’ve got the spare fundage to buy it all! πŸ™‚

  23. Melissa Marsh says:

Ooh, I’d love to have a room like that. What a gorgeous view.
My favorite place is on my living room couch, snuggled under a blanket. I’ve arranged my furniture in my living room to make it nice and cozy, especially on long winter nights. πŸ™‚

  24. Kelly says:

My favorite spot would have to be my bedroom, although it’s likely not nice and decorated like yours, Suzanne! LOL!

  25. Nicole says:

    That looks great!

Well, I think I spend way too much time in the office. Hmm…I think it’s a tossup between the bedroom and the living room.

  26. Tori says:

You’re kidding, right? I have no favorite room in our house. Though I suppose the closest thing would be my bedroom. But it’s too small and crowded. I’m always bumping into the furniture. I want your house. :bananadance:

  27. Robyn says:

Wow, lovely room and view Suzanne. Very
    relaxing!!
My favorite room was my craft room until we decided to do some spring cleaning and many boxes and totes ended up in there still to be gone through and find a home for the ‘stuff’. Ugh:!:

  28. Saundra M says:

Sorry I’ve been absent a week, had out of state guests and life was crazy here. Just got through catching up! My favorite ‘room’ in the house would be my patio. I love sitting there in the late evening, listening to the sounds of bugs, and always someone playing music in the background. Reminds me of Alabama when I’m out there, and always gives my mind a rest and lots of things I want to write about. For a brief period of time, I can almost forget I’m in the desert.

  29. Eve says:

    I want a wrap-around porch!:hissyfit:

  30. Steph T. says:

Your porch is beautiful! I’d never leave it. *g*

My favorite room is my office. I just love it there. Can’t wait to get back into it.

  31. ruby55 says:

From all the pictures you’ve shown us–inside and out–you have a really beautiful home.

My basement apartment isn’t 😯 and it sometimes doesn’t feel like a home either, because it’s so messy and crowded and I still have at least 100 boxes in storage. :yuck:

However, I always like my bedroom. When I lived in the house with my mother, I felt that was the only room that was truly mine. That’s my favorite “reading” spot.

In your poll I marked that I come every day before I realized that somehow I missed yesterday. I guess I was kind of busy.

  32. Gina says:

My home is a two bedroom apartment, and my favorite room is of course my room.

  33. Trish Milburn says:

I understand why you love that room so much. I pine away for a screened-in porch. Someday.

  34. Danica says:

Okay, your porch is my dream… right there. I would so love a room like that.

Right now, I don’t have a favorite room in my house. It’s too messy to be content anywhere. I was talking to my dad about this yesterday. All I want is one room. One room where I can shut the door, lock the kids out, and just sit in the peace of a nice clean room. Sometimes I get that feeling in my bedroom, but only if I don’t look at That Man’s half.

  35. Ashley says:

If it weren’t for mosquitos, it’d be outside on the front porch where I could watch the birds and my kids. Though, generally I end up in the kitchen or sunroom.
