Moon Pie looks a little sullen here, doesn’t she?
I’ve started milking Glory Bee twice a day.
When milking Glory Bee once a day, I milk her in the mornings. After she finishes working, she gets some time off with the children. I put her in the field with Dumplin and Moon Pie. Moon Pie gets to eat at mommy’s table all day. Then in the afternoon, I take Glory Bee to the back barnyard to fill up her tanks for the morning milking. That isn’t happening right now. Glory Bee is working full-time. I need heavy cream to make butter with attendees at the upcoming cheesemaking workshops that start later this week (Thursday, running through next Monday with baking and soap/herbs workshops).
Glory Bee is good at holding up her cream for baby when I’m only milking once a day.
To get all the cream, I’ve got to keep her to myself.
Nobody’s happy with this state of affairs. Least of all Dumplin and Moon Pie who miss mommy SO BAD and cry all the livelong day about their sorrow and longing. At least Dumplin and Moon Pie have each other.
Dumplin: “That woman is just mean, baby.”
Poor lil things.
They’re so hateful right now!

Such lovely looking sisters….
Does Dumplin ever try to nurse anymore seeing her little sis doing it?

Aw, poor babies. It’s the “Pain of the Food Chain” I’m afraid. Them’s at the top gets what they wants/needs. I hope in the winter when you provide food, water and warmth, they love you again.

Having just weaned our 6 month steer, I can sympathise with the moaning and hollerin’ that goes on all day and night. :hissyfit: I’ve got something more than three months to make all the butter I need for a year between now and when I have to dry my lady up. Luckily she forgets baby pretty quickly and I get my cream
