Could It Be?

Could we just have ONE rooster?

We think we’ve picked one out. He’s got a more overtly pronounced comb growth.

He’s very proud.

See how his comb growth is more pronounced than the others?

Lucky accepted her likely new female role with gracious aplomb.

“I love shoes, so I’m fine with it,” she remarked. “I would like to have some watermelon lip gloss now. And maybe a sparkly purse.”

One little chick was not so pleased.

“One rooster? And you’re saying it’s NOT ME?”

“I could be one of TEN hens? How SPECIAL.”

Heads. Will. Roll. And no, I DON’T WANT A SPARKLY PURSE.”

  1. Heidi says:

She is going to be the Alpha female I guess!! LOL They are getting so big! Wait till you take them outside for a little grass time. We always take ours out for about 10 min a day when its really warm and they LOVE IT!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Jyl says:

Seeing yours grow and how cute they are makes me want a chicken! My husband would throw a fit if I tried to incoorporate one more animal in this household though.

  3. Kim A. says:

I *like* that chick! She’s got all that natural eyeliner. ๐Ÿ˜†

  4. Blaze says:

    One Rooster and ten hens
    He’ll be one busy rooster!

  5. Kristen says:

I don’t know if it is true or not but my friend told me if you hold the chicks on their back and they stretch their legs out its a rooster and if they pull their legs up they are hens. I got 10 pullets and from the feed store so I thought I would test the theory and they all pulled their legs us…You might want to give it a try….because some breeds of chickens just have larger combs than others. :typing:

  6. Becky says:

I can’t wait to see them strutting their stuff in the new chicken yard.

  7. Melissa's Cozy Teacup says:

    The Bachelor-special chicken little edition.

  8. Judy says:

I found your blog a while back and have been lurking. I really enjoy it. I have wanted to get chickens but haven’t yet. I’ll just enjoy yours right now until I do.

  9. jean says:

    I love you!

But not in a stalker kind of way. I promise.

You make me laugh and I like it.

  10. Holly says:

Ha! New meaning to the idea of “Chick Lit.”

    Stories about chicks.

  11. Susan says:

Maybe if you don’t call her by a girlie name it will help her attitude. They are all so cute!

  12. Becky says:

hehehehe! Maybe the last chick will enjoy an Indigo Girls CD instead. :guitar:

  13. Amy Addison says:

:hissyfit: So sorry the tomboy chick can’t be the rooster. Just remind her she’s special in her own way and the boys will like her when she’s older.

You only need one rooster to get more chicks, right?

  14. Gina says:

But the sparkly purse is so you!

  15. Mental P Mama says:

I want to be Lucky’s godmother, please. :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

  16. becki says:

    Happy birthday to 17!

I’m an idiot. Is one rooster a good thing?

  17. Michelle Willingham says:

I LOVE your chicken photos. They are just too cool.

Maybe AngryYoungChick will be a punk rockin’ kind of chicken. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Donna says:

Ohhh, that is the cutest little black Rooster! The other one looks like it has a little comb too…but that little fuzzy black one is so precious! They all need little kisses on the head…tell Princess that. LOL She’ll be kissing each one on the head! Ha!

  19. Shirley says:

If that’s the only rooster you have, he’ll need viagra before long.

  20. Renna says:

LOL! Who knew chickens had so much attitude? ๐Ÿ˜†

  21. Susan says:

I think they are too young to tell. You should have gotten pink and blue eggs, then you would know what would hatch. Just a thought … or maybe a suggestion. he/he I just got chickens. I didn’t want too many roosters. Sometimes one rooster is too many. Even a 52 rooster. (I have one) I was told it is about 50/50, hens/rooster. Odds are, you will have more roosters. I like the pissy chick though. I think I know her!!

    :birthday2: Happy Birthday 17!!

  22. Mary says:

 I love the tomboy chick. She can be mine!! She will be beautiful when her markings grow out. She is striking now, I think!! Have a great day!! :butterfly:

  23. Candid Reflections says:

A girl with attitude…she’ll have no problem ruling the roost!

  24. Christine says:

Good luck with the one rooster idea. I though I had two out of seven but now at four weeks old realize I probably have five out of seven. :hissyfit: Keep the receipt for that sparkly purse!

  25. Estella says:

    That is my kinda chick!

  26. Jodie says:

Is Lucky still the biggest chick? :chicken: I’m sure she’s happy that you’ve realized she’s probably a hen. Eye-liner chick always looks angry, it will be interesting to see what that one looks like as an adult.

  27. Maria says:

    Dear Lucky:
Please don’t make the same mistake I did in the 80’s ie Leg Warmers. Just don’t go there. Disco you can laugh about, but legwarmers? Besides, you have a chicken house comin’ along fine and when your legs get cold just go in. And as for the AquaNet…use SPARINGLY.

    Your friend,
P.S. Please tell Suzanne and Princess the pic of Princess w/the cat is about the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long while (except for my daughter with “her” horse. Hey, I’m partial a bit…)

  28. Brandy says:

I love that last pic. She does look rather put out. *G*

  29. catslady says:

As Kim mentioned – it’s in the eyes lol. I can’t wait to see what the final tally is. What happens if you end up with too many roosters?

  30. lintys says:

aw, they are just so gosh darned adorable!

  31. Christy O says:

Oh those chicks are so cute! I can’t wait to get chicks.
