Little Lamb, Little Lamb

Little lamb, little lamb, what do you see?

“I see a donkey looking at me.”

Donkey, donkey, what do you see?

“I see a spotted dog looking at me.”

Spotted dog, spotted dog, what do you see?

“I see a red hen looking at me.”

Red hen, red hen, what do you see?

“I see a brown goat looking at me.”

Brown goat, brown goat, what do you see?

“I see a farmer looking at me.”

Farmer, farmer, what do you see?

I see– Oh, no.

I SEE SO MUCH POOP AROUND HERE!

P.S. This is a play on the great Eric Carle’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear, of course.

I’m so glad I decided to stop by here before going to bed!!! I could just hear a chorus of preschoolers chanting that delightful “story”, until you cracked me up with the poop!!! I don’t know what is worse – going to bed with dreams of goat poop in my head or waking up to poop and spitting hot chocolate all over my keyboard! Thanks for another hilarious post! And we MUST find a goat avatar for your collection….

  2. jojo says:

Don’t laugh too loudly but do you have to clean up all the poop every so often or does it just decompose?

  3. Julie says:

Debating whether or not to let my kids read this one. Not sure I want to hear talk of poop all day, then again, they would enjoy this post. What to do??

A classic, Suzanne! Love your farm!

  4. Sheila Z says:

    Fertilizer my dear, fertilizer!

  5. Runningtrails says:

lol! That’s spring! All the poop under the snow suddenly appears when it melts.

  6. carsek says:

What a great post! I can always count on you for a laugh. And yes, that will make a great garden when composted!

  7. Grammie Earth says:

Awww, they are all so cute. That is my 15 mo grandson’s favorite book, both for chewing on and for reading! Maybe I will read him your version later this morning. He doesn’t chew on the computer!

  8. CindyP says:

๐Ÿ˜† Glad my coffee isn’t done yet! ๐Ÿ˜† Looks like all of the animals are enjoying spring, too!

  9. Julie Curtis says:

Haha!! I wish I lived close and i would come scoop some of that poop for my garden!

  10. Cindy H. says:

definitely good fertilizer for your garden. I’d be swiping some of that good….stuff if I was close by!

  11. Laura says:

It’s one of the joys of first spring—–the unthawing of poo and all the clean up it entails.

  12. NorthCountryGirl says:

All that manure makes for a good compost pile. That was really cute.

  13. Ulrike says:

I say that everytime I go into the chicken house! However, yours would do great for the compost pile, mine takes awhile! Judging by what everyone else said they want some too!!

  14. lavenderblue says:

Funny, Screamin’ Sardine introduced this exact topic to the “Signs of Spring” thread in the forum yesterday. Our poo story didn’t rhyme, of course. Sure sign of spring.

  15. Carol Langille says:

They may be brown or black or shades in between, but those look like golden nuggets to a farmer!
You could use it for fertilizer or you could make jewelry from it, Suzanne! No kidding, several years ago in Missouri, someone was drying farm poo in either their oven or a dehydrator and then using the dried, and sterilized, stuff to make some rather interesting jewelry pieces and SELLING it. I’ll ask my sister about it….not that anyone would want to do that but still…
Enjoy your Spring…winter is coming to Dallas again. Possibility of SNOW on Sunday morning!

  16. Vera says:

Loved your take on the Bill Martin/Eric Carle classic! One of my favorite books.

  17. Kim Gibson says:

How ever do you come up with such wit so early in the morning? I love your column, you invariably make me laugh, cry, smile, giggle, groan, remember and generally live life out loud. Thank you!

  18. Bev says:

I see prosperous gardens with all that poop!

  19. Kathy Weisz says:

    I loved your post-Good morning-

  20. Gini says:

Okay, so sorry if this is a silly question, but what do you do with all that poop?

  21. Jenny says:

Cute! My kids love that book.
    ~Jenny~

  22. Barbee' says:

One of the realities of farming. Next will be the flies. Still, I envy you that source of fertilizer. I remember in the book NEVER ON SUNDAY (later made into a movie) one of the village characters had a donkey. He called it his fertilizer factory.

  23. joycee says:

    Poop happens! :smilerabbit:

  24. Julie says:

We too have tons of POO!! We hook this rake thing up behind the 4 wheeler and let the kids drag it around and it crumbles all the poo up and the pastures turn a beautiful green! it,s about time for the poo draging to begin here!

  25. Chic says:

LOL…you should have a VERY good garden this year Suzanne! Don’t you just love all that free fertilizer…I should have some good tomatoes this year. That is if the grass doesn’t take over..you know what first year gardens are like. Enjoy scooping your poop….have a wonderful weekend! Maura

  26. Diane says:

  28. Corinne says:

Ah yes, my favoriet part of Spring! I too have a large surplus of poo, I came across this website for an alternate use for the lovely little pellets….can’t quite bring myself to make any….maybe something for your craft page ๐Ÿ˜† https://www.creativepaperwales.co.uk/how_made.aspx

    Holy cr… oops!

That little lamb’s face is cute as can be :sheep:
And so are all the other animals :cowsleep:
Love the poem. Eric Carle is a great teller of children’s tales. The kids at school especially love his books that make noises.

  35. Carol says:

The little lamb is just darling.
I showed this post to my six year old granddaughter, and when we came to the last photo she said, “Oh no, deer poop.” She’s used to seeing that in my yard, and I’m always cautioning her not to step in it.

  36. Candice says:

I love your spoof off brown bear brown bear what do you see! I only wish I could just click a print button and print it into a book for my little 3 year old! She has that book memorized and even better, she LOVES farm animals! We have chickens now, but want to get some goats in the future. I love your creativity! It keeps me coming to your blog daily!
