Once upon a time, a teenage girl got two sheep for her 4-H livestock project. One sheep grew faster than the other sheep and became the chosen one. And so that fat little ewe went to show at the livestock barn and on to auction while the other little ewe stayed at home, all a-lonely.
What to do?
They could not keep that ewe!
Fortunately for me, her family reads my blog and the teenage girl, Miranda, decided that what she would most like in the world for her lonely ewe was for her to go to live on a farm, where she could grow up and one day be a mama, and never go to an auction. She wanted to donate Ebby to the flock at Sassafras Farm!
Ebby (short for Ebony) arrived at Sassafras Farm yesterday afternoon.
She will never be a-lonely again with other sheep, goats, chickens, and dogs.
The dogs and goats were intrigued.
Annabelle and Crazy checked her out with reserved curiosity.
Ebby is a Suffolk cross and will work well with the Tunis sheep coming in the spring.
Chloe took her to her right away. Ebby is just six months old. “Another puppy, just like me!” Chloe said.
Only soon, she was begging for help, along with everyone else!
She’s a playful thing!
Meet Ebby!

Hi Ebby! I’ve always wanted her breed of sheep. What a cutie! So funny to watch her meeting the other farm animals.

I predict Ebby is going to be a handful! She head butted and kicked the dog, chased the chickens, ate the top of that other sheeps head….fun times!

Poor little Ebby! The fat “chosen one” always pushed and butted her around. She was really missing Dutchess when they took her off to the 4 H barn she cried all the time and was a sad little sheep.
Hopefully she will get her fill of seeing her new friends and settle down a bit.
We are looking forward to keeping up with her and watching her grow up to be a nice well mannered lady.

Oh my goodness, she is so adorable as are all the other animals. Wish I lived closer to meet all of them and their human family and also to attend some workshops. Suzanne, you are truly blessed with the beautiful farm and all the darling animals. I know there were some rough times along the way to achieving your dream. You are one amazing lady!

Ebby really drove out the fact that GPs are absolutely mellow with their “charges”. The way Ebby head butted and even pawed Cocoa with her hoofs, yet Cocoa only got up off the ground and gave a little shake. The hens seemed a bit confused by the way they were being chased about. I bet she is “happy” that she has Annabelle and Crazy to keep her company.

When I was still on the farm and our 4 kids were in 4-H the suffolk breed is what we raised. I have lots of great memories. They are easy to tame. At one time we had 100 ewes. Imagine the noise they created with their blat.

My prediction — Ebby will be the one that finds a way to the greener grass on the other side of the fence and will lead the other ones to the promised land. It was always the Suffolks that got out of the fence when we had them. Always the ones that knocked you over for the food. Just, well, yeah, really pushy. I admit I hadn’t even watched the video when I made my first comment. I just watched it and yeah, just like I remember them. But I’m sure you’ll have more patience than I did. She is cute though. :sheep:
