Apple-Maple Jam (BBB)

Jun
18

Last week when I was cleaning out my freezers, I came upon several packages of prepared fruit labeled for various canning recipes. When I was putting away fruit as fast as I could, I didn’t have time to stop and can, so I just measured out and chopped up and froze to can another day. Then I forgot some of them! When I came on one package labeled Apple-Maple Jam, I could hardly wait to can it! It was just as delicious as I thought it would be, and it’s a no-brainer that I’ll be canning it again, and lots of it. Small chunks of apple with spices and maple syrup–if it was me, I’d have named this Apple Pie Jam because that’s what it tastes like!

You can find the recipe here on Farm Bell Recipes: Apple-Maple Jam

  2. whaledancer says:

Question: is it really 6 cups + 1 teaspoon sugar? Or was that a typo? I’m thinking I might try this for freezer jam, since right now I’ve got more freezer space than cupboard space. I bet it would be good on pancakes.

I wondered how/why you were canning APPLES? I’ll NOT enter the contest, thanks. I think I’ll sponsor one, but I’m getting rid of 1,000s of books (want some?) from my bookstore and I don’t can,so entering a contest to WIN a book to do something I don’t do just isn’t in my immediate future!

However, I will look at info about sponsoring same, as it sounds like a great idea!

  47. brookdale says:

BBB, please! Would love to learn to can. Your maple apple jam sounds delish!

  48. lavenderblue says:

When my kids were just toddlers, I froze some strawberries that I had prepared for jam to be canned later. My son is now 18, graduating this year and had just asked me if we could take a day to clean out the freezer because all those strawberries are taking up room that he wants to load up with meat. Oops!

I could really used that BBB, apparently. I already have dark maple syrup we got at a local sugar bush, specifically for cooking, it would work perfectly in this.
