Black Razzlecherry Jam (BBB)

Jul
20

Following the Great Summer Power Outage of 2012, I made a couple batches of Dede’s Black Razzlecherry Jam (Dede = wvhomecanner, our resident CITR preserving expert!) using sour cherries from my cherry tree and black raspberries from my pasture. (I didn’t strain to remove the seeds because seeds don’t bother me.) This is a delicious way to use up a mix of berries and cherries. (Exchange raspberries for blackberries or other berries according to what you have.) If you’ve got some berries and cherries that are begging to be put in a jar, you can find Dede’s recipe here:

Black Razzlecherry Jam.

I haven’t canned in a month or so. I miss canning if I don’t can for a bit! You? Or are you still waiting to get started? Wait no more!

Available today is another copy of the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving. I have this book, and love it. It has all the beginner instructions and recipes from the basic BBB, but it’s expanded to include lots of unique gourmet recipes to appeal to the advanced canner, too.

Would love a BBB!! Waiting for the fruit to start so canning can begin!

  2. BunnyRuth says:

A few years ago I combined small amounts of raspberries, blueberries and stawberries from my freezer at the beginning of summer just to free up the freezer space for the new harvest and called it Triple Berry Jam. I had so many positive comments and requests for the recipe but probably could never repeat it exactly as I did not recall the exact proportions, I just put them together until I got a final amount that equalled a berry recipe.

Would love to be included in the BBB drawing, thanks!

Been canning just this week, last night I made zucchini pineapple. Had some leftover and put it in the fridge. My husband, who does NOT eat before 10:30 am, slurped it all. And declared it a winner. Tonight is zucchini relish, then tomorrow is back to another batch of zucchini pineapple. One of my favorite jams to make is Very Cherry Berry Jam. I use about half sweet cherries, and half berries dujour. Usually some strawberries and blueberries, but this year my blackberries are producing and I think this recipe of yours may just have to be made.

No BBB for me please, I have one and LOVE it.

  19. bsue54 says:

I was hoping to try this recipe. Blackberries would have been the berries of choice but the heat and drought roasted them on the brambles. Only BB I scored were the early ones I pigged out on in the field. The quart or so I stuck in the freezer befell the same fate as my BBB (and everything else). Fingers and Toes crossed I am in the running for the BBB. Mine kinda became toast. Or more accurately ashes.
