Peach Pie with Pecan Crumb Topping


I’m already missing our fresh peach season here, but luckily I put some sliced peaches away in the freezer so I could visit peach season again right in my oven! This recipe is a combination of the best ideas from two different recipes then I added the twist with the crushed pecans. I love to play with recipes! And peaches are one of my top 10 favorite fruits.

Okay, so I love fruit. It’s hard to pick a favorite!

How to make Peach Pie with Pecan Crumb Topping:

Peach Pie Filling–
4 cups fresh or frozen sliced peaches
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Crumb Mixture–
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup crushed pecans

Toss peaches in a large bowl with flour and sugar. Spoon filling into an unbaked single-crust Foolproof Pie Crust shell. In a small bowl, work butter into the flour and brown sugar with a pastry cutter.
Stir in the crushed pecans (this is how I always crush pecans–put pecans in a plastic baggie, place the baggie on top of a cutting board, then pound the baggie with my little flowery hammer–it’s fun!) then sprinkle mixture evenly over pie. Bake at 375-degrees for 25 minutes on the lower oven rack. Transfer pie to the top oven rack and bake an additional 20 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!

*If you don’t have fresh peaches, use two 21-ounce cans of prepared peach pie filling, omitting the flour, sugar, and cinnamon in the first step.

    I crush nuts for all my recipes much the same way, only I use a rolling pin to pound them down. I’ll have to try this before the peach season is over.

    Apples are my favorite fruit. We don’t have much of a season for fruit in the big harsh city, unless you count the Farmer’s Market, grocery store fruit is just not the same as fresh. If I could drive, I would definitely leave the confines of the city and hit every roadside stand I could find. xxoo

    Thre is NOTHING like fruit pie or cobbler. peach cobbler is my favorite. we still have plenty of fruit down here in texas. i also love mixed berry cobbler. I get 2 bags of frozen mixed berries and put them in a 13×9 pan, put a white or yellow cake mix or spice cake mix in a bowl with a stick of melted butter and mix, drop on top of the fruit and then add crushed pecans, bake 350 for 45-55 min. servie with ice cream. Banana pudding would be my next facorite though I can take or leave bananas. was this pie for your parents on the pie porch?

    Peach Pineapple Cherry Jam – Julie Coleman
    winner of the home canning 2003 Palisade Peach Festival

    3.5 c peeled, chopped peaches (8 med) 1/2 tsp butter
    1/3 c. pinapple 2 tbs cherry syrup
    1/4 c. chopped cherries 1/4 c lemon juice
    1 pouch or one 1.75 packet pectin
    5 cups sugar

    Put peaches, pineapple, cherries, syrup, lemon juice, butter, sugar in pan to boil on high heat. Boil until it cant be stirred down, add pectin. Boil again and for one min. remove from heat and put in sterilized hot jars. makes 6-8 8 oz jars. place in water bath for 10 min, cool for 10 min and then turn upside down for 15 min to help fruit not float.

    I want to try this one for sure. I am not wild about pineapple at all – it tends to take over flavors but with the cherries in there who knows. so that is a fruit i hate really pineapple.

    Peach cobbler is number one favortie…then apple pie falls into second place. My peach trees are thru producing for this year but I put quite a few packages in deep freeze to use this winter.

    My favorite is a local here…Muscatine melon. I just love them warm with a sprinkle of pepper. I miss my strawberries although I did manage to make up a batch of Strawberry/Rhubarb jam which will be nice through the cold winter months.

    We love peaches here, too! I love fresh cranberries, and always buy thirty bags for the freezer when they come in.

    You know what is good? Take some time when you get in your fresh pecans to toast them with a little sugar. Go on and crush them, then put them in the freezer. Label the bag(s) so you don’t mix them up with some you have toasted with garlic butter for salads!

    For me, “favorite” is definitely a tie between peaches and blackberries. But, grocery store varieties of either are just not acceptable, so it’s quite a treat when the local ones start showing up. I could easily polish off an entire cobbler by myself. Quickly.

    We still have local peaches here, but alas…my birthday brought the start of a new weight loss program. They’ll have to wait until next summer. Torture!

    I’m sure that I’m the oldest “fan” you have….just turned 78 yrs. old. However, I may be one of the most addicted! Never do I miss a day reading your blog… is just wonderful. Your writing is so great, and for some reason is very comfortable and comforting to me. It’s so “downhome”! Every summer of my young life was spent in the Texas panhandle (worlds apart from my native Florida) visiting my adored grandparents. I watched my grandmother churn,make butter, pick fruit from the orchard for enormous cobblers, and turn out the most delicious meals ever! Buttermilk pie was a favorite Sorry this is sooo long!

    My family loves peaches and I used to love it when my stepgrandmother had peach ice cream or we made homemade. I also LOVE PECANS!!!

    My top favorite fruits are Nectarines, black cherries, black plums, bananas…see? I can’t claim just one either! I love so many and peaches is one of them! :mrgreen:

    I love peaches too, but for eating out of hand I prefer nectarines because I can’t handle getting that fuzzy stuff in my mouth. And I am not strong enough to pick just one fruit – nectarines, plums, cherries, apples, citrus fruit – I love the procession of them through the year!

    I love peach pie with a crumb topping. I’ll have to try adding the pecans. That sounds so good. We used to get the best peaches ever in WV. I would buy them by the lug and can them. I’ve never found peaches like that anywhere else.

    I love most fruit and don’t think I could pick one favorite. Probably my least favorite is an orange that is too chewy lol. Your pie looks yummy and actually I think I could make it because it was nice of you to not make us make the pie crust too lol I’ve turned into a very lazy baker. (I just bought an apple pie lol)

    I love any kind of fruit. I sometimes make cobblers, but since my hubby is diabetic I don’t do it often. He craves anything sweet !I have a few bags of peaches I froze to make pies or cobblers. Wish I had more !

    I love most fruits too. That pie looks super yummy. My son is allergic to nuts/peanuts so I haven’t really had no nuts in the house for 13 years now. I did have some chocolate covered almonds a few years back when I was alone. I do miss them. Those ones look super yummy on that pie!

    Colorado’s peach season is still but mid-way through. Today I canned peach-banana-cherry-pecan jam — pretty AND tasty. I really look forward to our peach season, which starts about the 3rd week of July and continues to early September. There is nothing quite like a Palisade (Colorado) peach. Thanks for the new (to me) recipe!
