Jill’s middle daughter pouring chicken drippings by a tree in the yard……
Yes, Jill let me try to bait a bear! Against her will, I must add. Her entire family regaled me with tales of bears over dinner and I said, hmm, let’s pour the chicken drippings outside and see if we can get one to come up! Jill said NOOOOOOOOO. Her daughters pleaded–they are so much fun! and Jill couldn’t hold out.
Did we get one? I dunno. I fell asleep waiting, LOL.

Happy First Day of School! Did we make it on time?
Sunday night: Let’s check the backpack and lay out your clothes for tomorrow. Child claims to do just that and after what seems like hours, grudgingly goes to bed.
Monday 6:30 a.m (Mom is waiting for coffee to kick in): Child: What did I wear last year on the First Day?
Mom can’t remember.
Child: I thought you remembered these things.
Dad: (desperately trying to avoid the entire fashion issue) What you got out looks great, Sweetie.
Mom (blowing her nose, coughing, sneezing, and feeling the burn of a really sore throat) White blouse, khaki skorts.
Child: Hello, that’s what I always wear. Uniform. What blouse and skorts?
Mom: Look. We spent hours shopping so none of your blouses (white) or bottoms (khaki or black-skorts or skirts, she refuses pants or shorts) would be the same.
Dad: More coffee, dear?
Mom: Please.
Child: OK, I’m dressed.
Mom: You look nice.
Child: I look like a dork. Why are uniforms required in elementary school?
Mom: To make getting dressed easier in the morning.
Dad: (to Mom) You look terrible. You ok?
Mom: Kiddo gave me that cold she’s had for the past week. I got the full dose.
Child: I’m going to be late!!!
Dad and child leave.
Peaceful bliss.
The only cold medicine apppears to be the green nyquil.
Dad will get more on his way home. Take the green stuff? I feel rotten and really could use a good nap.
I will hear all about the First Day tonight.:bananadance::sick:

Congratulations, Kathleen!
I knew Jill was a great friend. This proves it and at least I guessed right, too.
Wish I had a house like that.

Don’t need chicken drippings, birdfeeders work out here just fine. I’ve managed to hook myself a bear four times in the last two years…LOL…
Now, my feeders come in at night until they hibernate.

Congrats, Kathleen!
Marianne – I’m right there with you! Although the bears still come into the yard to eat what the birds have knocked to the ground.

Thank God all I have to contend with are possums getting trapped in the trash cans!
I think they work in teams like the raccoons on the Wendys commercial.
One launches itself at the lid to knock it loose and the other one jumps off the back step into the trash. Possums are pretty stupid, though. Once they get in the can, unless it is almost full, they cant get back out. They just sit there until some idiot (me) rolls the can to the edge of the pasture and lets them out.
