Look! I have a new friend!!! He showed up around the farm recently and I fed him and he climbed into my lap and now he’s mine! What should I call him?

Here’s another shot of him. He’s so pretty! Make as many suggestions as you like. We’re going out of town this weekend for the holiday, but I’ll be back on Tuesday and we’ll have a family vote on the names and choose one! The winner will receive their pick from my contemporary backlist.

Shhh!!! Don’t tell Buttercup about this!

Comments

  1. Marcy says:

    Aww….how sweet!

    Smokey
    Soot
    Velvet
    Fred

  2. Becki says:

    You have a Buttercup….
    Now you have a Mojo!

    😈

  3. Emma S says:

I think his name is going to be Dead Meat if Buttercup finds out. (Or will that be your new name?)

  4. Tori Lennox says:

    Max

    Tuxedo

    Bond James Bond

  5. Carol says:

Mittens after my kitty that I lost almost four years ago. He was black but he didn’t have the white paws! πŸ˜† He was named after the three little kittens that lost their “mittens”!

  6. Lis says:

So cute! Just from looking at the first picture I have to suggest – Whiskers; Jade; Panda?

  7. Fannie M Wiggins says:

I say Moochie. He seems to be begging for something, Food maybe? He is cute and black so maybe Midnight? Ahh heck Suz, I am no good with names.:wall:
    But those are my picks:
    Moochie
    Midnight.

  8. Sonja says:

Panda’s a cute idea. πŸ™‚ I always go with the traditional names for my pets. My dog’s name is Sydney and my family’s two dogs when I was growing up were Ramona and Sally.

For some reason, this cat looks like he’s the artsy type, which reminds me of one of my sister’s old boyfriends who played classical guitar, so I’d name him Pepe Romero. But I’d always pronounce it PeePee ROME-ero. Because my sister used to do that to make her boyfriend mad. And I’m just passive-aggressive enough to think that’s really funny and want to immortalize the memory forever in the name of my pet.

  9. Jennifer Yates says:

Aww…I love cats…we have many strays around here…here are a few name suggestions…I’ll probably think of more later…I like naming animals!

Lazurus (he was my favorite cat and passed away)
    Boots (after Puss in Boots)
    Moe
    Tommy (Tomcat)
    Hercules
    Spot
    Buster
    Milo
    Champ
    Jack

  10. Elizabeth says:

    Shadow

  11. Jennifer Yates says:

    Oreo

  12. Jennifer Yates says:

    Phantom
    Captain Jack
    Sylvester

The names keep coming to me…sorry.

  13. catslady says:

Goodness I’ve named so many but it’s hard without knowing his personality.

    Mosi – Navajo for cat
    Takoda – Sioux for friend
Keiko – Japanese for adored one
Lorcan – Irish for little wild one
    PAX – πŸ˜‰

  14. Le Ellis says:

Your new cat looks similar to mine. Except mine has fur that is more reddish brown than black. We named her Hershey. She looks like she has a smudge of chocolate on her upper lip. πŸ™‚ You could name yours Smore, chocolate and marshmallows mashed together.

  15. Courtne says:

He looks just like my sister’s cat, Oreo. Perfect name!

  16. Estella Kissell says:

It’s kind of hard to name an animal without observing it for a while, but I will go with Silkie. His black color looks like silk.

  17. Jennifer Yates says:

    How about:

    Ace
    Leo
    Gus

Or since you alread have Buttercup, how about Bubbles or Blossom? :rotfl: Sorry…couldn’t resist. How is Buttercup handling the new addition?

  18. Terra says:

    Janro( it’s Italian):bananadance:

  19. Cheryl S. says:

Um . . . not good with names.
    How about

    Precious?
    Felix?

  20. Cheryl S. says:

    Or maybe

    Cuddles?

  21. Beth says:

    How about……

    Sugarfoot, or….. Merman :rotfl:

  22. Jennifer Yates says:

:rotfl: I thought about suggesting Merman.

My 6-year-old nephew suggested Gilbert…not sure where he got that from.

    Some more suggestions:
    Lou
    Deuce
    Bandit
    Lucky

  23. Michelle says:

I like Felix, too. Maybe Butcher or Killer. :):rotfl:

  24. Laurie says:

    What a cutie!
    How about:
    Socks, Cinders, Blackie or Beast

  25. Melissa says:

    😯 I’m tellin’ Butterboo.

    Checkers
    Damian
    Pierre

BB tomorrow with more. Off to

  26. Mary says:

I think you should name the cat Tuesday or Gerald

  27. Sandy J says:

    I like the PAX idea!

  28. Joyce says:

    What about socks?
Mac or Mick? Long time ago (maiden name was Smith) we named our cat Smitty.

  29. Jaynie R says:

Oh, he has gorgeous green eyes like the sea so I suggest Poseiden – you could always call him Po for short πŸ˜†

  30. ruby55 says:

Boy, he is gorgeous. I wouldn’t mind having him.

Let’s see. I’m not good at names either never having had to name anything in living memory, maybe my goldfish, but that was eons ago.

I like Bandit. The dog upstairs is named that: he’s a pug but a real cutie and so much wanting a petting unless he’s shivering to death.

    I’m thinking;
    Mask
    Max(i)
    Zorro
    Domino or
Dom for short and that also has meaning as in “Dom Perignon”
    Zeus (since we’re into gods)
Hope–since he looks so hopeful on the first picture.
Ivanhoe–what my sister named her dog after Sir Walter Scott’s knight.

Drat, still can’t remember the second name I thought of. So fleeting is the mind–mine is anyway. Yuck!:loser:

Hope you had a great holiday.

    I may be back.

Humph, you guys get a holiday. We don’t. Next one’s not until Easter, though the children and teachers get school break about 3rd week in March. Not that it really makes a difference to me unless the stores close.

  31. TeresaH says:

The first thing I thought of was oreo, also bandit, or maybe since you already have a buttercup, maybe chocolate chip?:rotfl:

  32. TeresaH says:

maybe since he strayed in there, hobo or vagabond, or even tramp, or coffecup, or cafe au lait

  33. Fannie M Wiggins says:

He’s black and white so why not
Harlequin? Or Checkers? If all else fails just call him Cat.Or Ruffian.
:hissyfit: I am no goo at this naming someone else’s pet.

  34. Fannie M Wiggins says:

Can’t spell either. That should say good. Guess Spelling 101 is in my future.

  35. Maureen says:

    Sylvester
    Socks
    Sam or Sammy
    Bud
    Patches
    Harry

  36. Cheryl S. says:

    Or maybe:

    Chance
    Spooky

  37. Robyn says:

    Pumpkin Ace
    Theodore Dodger
    Sookie Winkie
    Tomboy Godiva
    Snooky Cinnamon(hehe)
    Midnight
    Rex
    Mineau
    Lucky
    Alfie
    Samson
    *I also like Cuddles, Sebastian(had a dog
with that name)and Sammy(our dog now) but someone else has used these so don’t count mine.

  38. Robyn says:

the first 5 entires have 2 names and each one is separate; I typed 2 columns of names but when submitted they moved together. For example, Ace, Dodger, Winkie, Godiva and Cinnamon are separate.
Aw shucks, here is my list again:(sorry)

  55. Jennifer says:

  56. Amelia says:

What an adorable kitty! He looks just like our Butch! He has the white bib and four white feet, too. We have also had a Buckwheat, Spanky and Porky! πŸ˜€ At the moment, we have a Leo, Zorro and Spike, too.

  57. ruby55 says:

BTW, when I suggested Domino, it was with 2 things in mind: There are of course the black and white domino tiles but in the Regency, as a Regency author recently reminded us, people would were “dominos” to masked balls. They consisted of a mask with a hooded cloak. (I think that’s right.)

  64. Cheryl S. says:

    Can’t resist one last one:

    Mystic

    OK, I’m done. Maybe. :rotfl:

  65. Jennifer Yates says:

    Okay…here are my last suggestions…I think. 😳

These are actually names of some of our current cats:

    Paco

And if Buttercup finds out: Goner
