You Know That Shoe Thing?

I went out yesterday to get some new nail polish because I was running low on a couple colors. I’m going to paint purple and silver….something…on my nails for Reno. Not sure what yet. I’m expermenting with flag designs and ladybugs and flowers. I love to do nail art. I used to amaze my seventh graders with my nail art when I was a teacher. They’d come in every Monday and say, “What’s on your nails?” The girls would gather round to oooh and ahhh. Since I wasn’t a very good teacher, I had to have something. At Christmas, I’d paint the other teachers’ nails in the little slits of light in the back of the room with entire scenes of snowmen and falling snow and Christmas trees while the kids were watching movies. I should have become a manicurist. It would have been easier and I wouldn’t have gotten all those hate notes from parents.

So anyway, I was OUT TO GET NAIL POLISH. THAT’S IT. Accidentally, my car fell into the parking lot of this place called The Shoe Depot. It was in a strip mall next to Wal-Mart. From the street, this place looked like the size of a closet. Inside, it was like a ballroom. A ballroom full of Cinderella shoes. I mean, really, my head was reeling. THERE WERE SO MANY SHOES!! And they were all so pretty! And glittery!!! I spent an hour there. I left with these silver sandals. They are sparkly and strappy and they have this baubly thing like a chandelier bead hanging off the ankle strap. I mean, HOW COULD I RESIST? When I got home, my husband said, “Just what you need. More shoes.” I said, “EXACTLY!” I don’t know if I’m bringing them to Reno or not. I don’t think they will fit in my carry-on bag. Maybe I will hang them over my ears and wear them onto the plane that way. What do you think?

TIP: Use toothpicks to paint detailed nail art. Shhh. Don’t tell anyone. It’s a trade secret.

  1. Katie says:

GORGEOUS!! Yes, if they won’t fit on your ears, perhaps as a dangly necklace??

  2. Sue says:

Yes they are GORGEOUS and if you can’t wear them make them a necklace I really love them purses and shoes are my thing

  3. Ashley says:

You get to have a carry on and a purse.. maybe your purse could carry them? Or just strap them to the top of the carry on? Hmm.

  4. kacey says:

BRING THEM!! They are darling!! I MUST get out and get another pair of shoes before Reno. Go on, bring them. You know you want to. The people at your workshop will understand if you throw out the handouts you packed. Just bring the shoes to show them at the workshop. What woman wouldn’t understand shoes over handouts??

  5. Kelly says:

Oooh, very nice! They’d match the nail polish!

  6. Amy K. says:

I think you should definitely bring them to Reno! It was meant to be.

  7. Jill says:

I think you should have to leave them home in sympathy for me, the woman with the broken foot who can’t put on any pretty shoes …

  8. Estella Kissell says:

The shoes are gorgeous:!: You should definitely take them to Reno.

  9. Tori says:

The shoes are darling!!! You MUST take them to Reno! (Don’t know why I feel so emphatically about it since I won’t be there, but still. 😆 )

  10. Melissa says:

Suz, I wanna see pics. of your nail art.

Oh, Girlfriend! Strappy, sexy, silver sandals. Love them!
You will look like a Diva! OK!?

  11. Jan says:

Fab shoes!!! You have to take them to Reno. I went shopping for sandals and bought a pair of silver heels similar to yours, only mine didn’t have the dangly thingie. And hell, I’m not even going to National this year. :hissyfit: But I couldn’t walk out of the store without them. Have fun!!!

  12. Mary says:

I just blogged about how you inspired me with your packing expertise–you can not take those shoes because I will begin adding things to my suitcase too. :wall: However, if you do decide to take them, what size and if 9 can I borrow?:bananadance:

  13. ValMarie says:

I’m going to throw my vote in with Melissa and ask to see pictures of your nail art when it’s done. Thanks for the toothpick tip. I always wondered how other people managed to make theirs look so neat.

  14. Rene says:

Those are so cute. I don’t do nails. My cuticles send manicurists screaming. My vow is when I sell a book, I will go to the manicurist on a regular basis.

  15. Margery Scott says:

Fabu shoes!!!!!! I’d love to have fancy nails, but I have no artistic talent whatsoever. I can’t even draw a decent stick man. Nope, plain nails, usually with no polish.

  16. Emma S says:

You have to bring the shoes ’cause they’ll look perfect with your fancy new jacket!

Note to self: find Suzanne to see her nails.

  17. Anna Lucia says:

    You HAVE to.

I tell you what, they are VERY like a pair I wore for the RITAs in 2003, but mine were silvery pinky lilac to go with my (frankly gorgeous) dress.

I got so many compliments that night! So you HAVE to take them…

  18. Suzanne says:

Okay, I tried to take pictures and apparently I don’t have a good enough camera to take photos close up enough to be able to see the nail art without ending up washing out the photo with the lighting. :hissyfit:

  19. Crystal* says:

I like how your car “accidentally” fell into the Shoe Utopia parking lot. Slick. Very slick. heh
The shoes are gorgeous! Wear those bad boys with that black, sparkly top.

  20. Lis says:

    Love the shoes!!

  21. BJ Deese says:

Oooh I love them! Go back and see if they have some in my size! LOL 🙂

  22. Robyn says:

Very, very nice shoes! Oh la la. Do take
them if possible. I love painted nails on
feet and hands. Have fun; have a ball.

  23. Cynthia says:

Love the shoes! You have to bring them to RWA. Have fun at the conference. Hope you’ll have lots of great stories to blog about when you return.

  24. Gladys Paradowski says:

The shoes are adorable and you should try to take them with you. Maybe not on your ears, but perhaps wrapped up in some clothing piece. Ha! Know anyone else going from your locale that might have a smidgeon of space to spare.

By the way, how do you plan to bring home items given out at the conference? I used to attend some conventions that had contests. I’d always take an empty suitcase to bring home what I won or favors given out. Always the optimist, that’s me.

  25. mary beth says:

Love the shoes, love the clothes. Have a blast!

  26. ruby55 says:

Wonderful-looking shoes. Not for me though. I’d probably be on the floor on my attempt to take the first step. :rotfl: Dowdy-shoes, that’s me.
