23 Million

I think I like this picture. (Thank you, Paul Young.) I’m the one in the front middle, West Virginia t-shirt, crazy hair, and a blue cup that had wine in it, ha. I hardly ever look at my website stats anymore because I just don’t have time. (Used to be OBSESSED with them!) I just looked at them and it hit me that there have been over 23 million pageviews on Chickens in the Road in the last four and a half years. Over 3 million unique users have visited this site. Wow. I am amazed. Thank you for being here, and thank you for keeping on coming. What good would it do me to be here without you?

I want to note that my memoir is due on October 1. The retreat is over, but I have two more weeks until I taste pure freedom. I am so looking forward to this fall and this winter. It’s been a crazy, wild, hectic first year at Sassafras Farm. Starting October 1, I will be a free woman with more spare time than I’ve seen in years. I can’t wait to stock it full of new crafts and recipes to try out and, like, some down time. And some serious Shortcake-riding. I’ll do my best here in the next two weeks, but please bear with me as finishing my book on time is very important. Sweet times are just around the corner!

How long does it usually take between submitting a manuscript and the book going on sale? Or is there even a “usual”?

  4. bonita says:

@whaledancer, producing a book is often a lot like giving birth. Rule of thumb used to be 9 months–(typewriters and paper) from final, final mss to bound book. Now it’s often about 9 (yes nine) months (computers and ganging books to lower production costs). Publishers jockey for press dates in order to prepare for the industry’s largest trade shows. The only thing in the writer’s control is meeting impossible deadlines!
The next all-important trade show is May 30 โ€“ June 1, 2013. Publishers push to have {sample} bound books in hand for this important show-and-tell. Actual books for sale follow on after trade show.

Don’t worry about us! Just finish that book, I can’t wait for it. I have a problem with needing instant gratification. That’s why I love canning so much…you get it right then. BAM!
