Weston and his girlfriend have a ferret! I’m a grandma!!!! Or something…..
It’s a boy and they named him Face. I’m told this is a Dungeons & Dragons reference. I wouldn’t know anything about that. I said, “Does it lay eggs? Can I milk it?”
They bought the ferret together and are sharing Face, but he mostly lives with Mariah. Which is just fine with me……
Though.
I couldn’t resist petting him. He IS cute!!
STOP ME. I’m not a ferret farmer!!
P.S. Weston routinely forgets to tell me when he’s bringing Mariah home with him, which routinely throws me into hyperdrive making her something to eat. I was so thrilled last night to be able to cook her up some beans in five minutes in my new pressure cooker! Between that and some whole grain beer bread, she had dinner. No hyperdrive required. And in case you’re wondering how Weston’s vegetarianism is going, it’s not. He decided he was a meat eater. (Can’t say I’m disappointed, but I was ready to support him!) And yes, my Christmas tree is still up!

Thank goodness your Christmas tree is still up; that makes me feel better about mine.
Congratulations on your new grandferret.

we’re considering a ferret. What kind of cage do you have? How do you keep the smell to a minimum?

I don’t know anything about keeping a ferret. The ferret has only been here once! I’m not the keeper of the ferret.

greensborodailyphoto – whatever you do, don’t bathe them too much, it’ll only make the smell worse! My father-in-law had a ferret that roamed the house freely and he was one stinky little bugger, but so cute.

Ferrets are adorable. We’ve had hamsters, rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, but never ferrets. A friend had two. She kept the smell down by changing the papers at the bottom of their cage pretty much every time she walked by it. It really isn’t as work-y as it sounds. They only mess a small amount at a time, unlike rabbits. That reminds me, I have two rabbit cages to clean, today. Yuk!
Make sure the ferret never, ever gets away from Mom and Dad. It is a weasle, pretty much, isn’t it?

The ferret is adorable! Don’t feel bad my main Christmas tree is still up also. I have the other 2 trees and Christmas decorations down but not put away yet. Oh well, it will happen eventually.

Weston may still turn out to be a vegetarian, especially with his girlfriend’s influence. It usually takes 2-3 starts to have it stick, since meat eating is so much of a custom.

Carol Langille says:
Boy named Face is cute…Mariah is cuter….Weston is cutest.
I have my tree and most of the decorations up, also, Suzanne. Our pastor’s sermon Sunday emphasized that Christmastide isn’t over until after January 6, which is the day the Three Wise Men came to see the newborn Christ. I decided to leave my stuff up until then so I can get a good measure of Christmas joy…has to last til next November, you know.

Ferret farming equals fur coats. You are so NOT a ferret farmer.
Hey, don’t ferrets eat chickens? Or at least their eggs?

PBS has a documentary that they show once in a while about the world of ferret shows thats really a bit alarming and just plain strange and pretty funny. My Christmas tree is still up too and I refuse to take it down until I have a Christmas! That is supposed to happen this weekend, but we will see. Things keep happening that seem to be delaying it! :reindeer:

Cute Ferret!!!!My son and his finance got 2 degu. To me they look like big gerbils and small chinchilla. I started taking my Christmas stuff and tree down this morning. Leaving all snowmen though it is still winter.

Jersey Lady says:
Our tree is still up too, at least until tomorrow which is Epiphany or the 12th day of Christmas.
My brother had a series of ferrets. They potty in a litter box.His always seemed to have a funky smell but maybe with a shampoo that could be managed. The one thing I do remember is that they like to chew rubber. So, best keep an eye out that Face does not take a liking to your chore boots. My brother’s ate a hole in the rubber lining of his waterbed.

YES!! Your tree should still be up! You need to wait until AFTER the 12th Day of Christmas! Mine? Well, one year we put a few shamrocks on it just to change it up a bit! ๐

I would have left my tree up, but we kept forgetting to water it. I was afraid it would turn into a flaming torch, which wouldn’t go well with the living room decor; so out it went. It is rather nice to have my rocking chair back in that corner.

OK… I can answer just about any ferret question. Keeping the smell down is the easiest especially since Face is probably already been decented. Wash the bedding frequently and use fabric softener. If you wash the ferret too much he just produces more skin oil. Best bedding is old fleece blankets and tee shirts. Ferrets do eat meat and should not eat vegi’s…Ferrets can not digest vegi and it will get stuck in thier cut. I always find it funny when vegetarians get ferrets for pets. The ferret may eat a baby chick but wont bother with full grown chickens. In europe they are used to hunt and make really good mousers…
They are not the pet for everyone…and they do require lots of work..think of it like a very smart two year old for life.

I love ferrets, they make the best pets. My son had Rascal and he was part of the family. They are so smart it is scary. Rascal rode the back of our golden retriever. He also loved our two cats and they played chase. I wouldn’t want a herd of them though. :snoopy:

How do the cats get along with the ferret?
I still have one tree up, just now ready yet to take it down, it is so soothing to light it at night and just sit and enjoy it. I dont know what it is, Christmas comes the same date every year, and I have plenty of time to get ready, and it seems we all are doing last minute rushing. Now the rush is done and I can just sit and look at it.
Any chance you might post a photo of your entire tree before it comes down? If you have posted one please tell me when it was posted, and I will find that post– I would love to see it.
Thank you.

How adorable! As to the vegetarian, it probably will depend on how much influence the girlfriend has. If they marry, she may be doing the cooking lol but not necessarily so anymore. My one daughter married a guy who does the cooking, she hates to for some reason. My nephew has been one for about 25 years and my sister for about 15 since she cooked for him. My brother-in-law has to go out if he wants meat lol. Our family always makes vegetarian lasagna during the holidays lol.

I think this is the first time you ever mentioned Weston’s girlfriend’s name! A very pretty name too! My tree is still up, although completely naked! It’s still so fresh and green and smells so good that I hate to get rid of it. (Maybe I’ll put some Valentines on it!)

Took our tree down yesterday. But, I was in a local restaurant today and their tree was still up and decorated with New Year’s hats, horns and stars! Maybe they’ll keep it up all year with seasonal decorations.
Tell Weston to keep an eye on that ferret and not let it run away, they’ll never find it. They like to hide in small spaces.

I had a neighbor who had a possum for a pet. She kept it in a cage in the house and had a harness to take it outside to go to the bathroom. She told me it was cute if you didn’t look at its tale. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Congrats on the ferret….at one time we were like the unofficial ferret rescue couple…we had seven. They are wonderful pets…ours all were housebroken and used cat litter. Don’t use the wood chips..can cause breathing problems…treat them like a cat and be sure and ferret proff your house..they can get in the tiniest cracks and they are pack rats…will carry off and hide things.
