A Mantel

I have a mantel!

So far, just my, Morgan’s, and Weston’s stockings. I will find something to use to hang up Ross’s stocking soon. He might be coming home for Christmas, I’m not sure yet.

I also have some mismatched lights on the porch. It’s all I have.

And wait till you see my tree. It’s one of those ideas that causes Morgan to say things like, “You’re so insane.”

Love your mantel! Wish I had one to hang stockings on.
Maybe your “best former owners” left you some Christmas lights? Just wondering!
Can’t wait to see your tree! I am sure it is beautiful. My father used to say, after a long day of trudging through the woods to find one, “Any tree is a beautiful Christmas tree once you get it up and decorated”. We had many lopsided, uneven or leaning trees…and every one was beautiful!

Your mantel is very nice, and the stockings hung with care—–and above is a picture of one of your favorite people.
We are all looking forward to seeing your tree, I am wondering if it will be an evergreen or something different, it will be fun to see your tree this year, your Christmas trees are always so pretty——— a Charlie Brown tree would be special in your new home.
Please take a photo of your porch after dark.

Our trees are always from our own property (which used to be a Christmas tree farm, about 20 years ago, so it’s covered in REALLY OVERGROWN Christmas trees.) Every tree is a Charlie Brown Christmas tree! They look very pitiful and yet, somehow festive, when festooned with more lights and decorations than any tree could reasonably hold. :grinch:

  4. GrammieEarth says:

LOL Remind Morgan that insanity can run in families! I’m sure your tree, like the rest of Sassafras Farm, will be gorgeous!

Running in kraizy circles here in my world, so haven’t had a chance to comment. It’s amazing what a new baby girl can do!!!!

Oh pleasepleaseplease let it be an upside down tree! 😀

    Insane is good!

I am loving everything about your farm and all the work you have done! Having moved a number of times, myself, I am amazed that you picked up the paint brush so soon. It looks gorgeous! You can enjoy your mantle and the stockings hung with love. Each room is “just right.” I am so happy for you and look forward to your posts each day. Thank you.

Insane to one person could be fabulously creative to another. Cedar Christmas trees is what we always used to have when I was a kid. The smell can transport me right back to then. :happyflower:

  9. thistlewoodmanor says:

Oh, I love the idea of a cedar tree! I have quite a few; too big to cut, but some branches would smell lovely.

  10. cabynfevr says:

Your mantel is beautiful EXCEPT for Judge Judy being in the shot! I know you love that cranky woman but REALLY?! lol

  11. GrammieEarth says:

    OHHH OHHH OHHH :shimmy: :happyfeet:

An upside down tree is an awesome idea! This ‘Silly “Gahmie”‘ just might have to do this…!

I love everything about your new place…….except for the TV over the mantel. (Sorry!) You could decorate it so beautifully for every season.

The TV distracts from the mantel, plus, don’t you get tired of looking up to watch it? LOL!

I know you’re still working on the house and getting everything situated and decorated, so please, please don’t take offense! You are SOOOO lucky to have landed on your feet in this wonderful place and I look forward to reading more!

  14. lizzie says:

Can’t wait to see what you are going to do about the tree! :snoopy:

  15. Sheila Z says:

I second not liking TV over the mantel… and hating Judge Judy. Good thing it’s not my house. I see the pond between the barn and the house has conveniently dried. Nice!

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Re TV over the mantel, it depends on what kind of TV watcher you are. I don’t sit around watching TV much, but I like it on sometimes as background noise/company. I work a lot at the dining room table, and the position over the mantel is convenient to watch from there or as I’m moving around and through the house doing things. I don’t like the TV to take up “floor space” in the living room as it’s a very small living room, so it’s also a space saver to have it over the mantel and leaves me room to do the floor-to-ceiling open shelves I want to build and so on. It works for me. A TV is always going to take up space you could use in another way no matter where you put it, so it’s just a choice of where you want to take the space.

I just love the pictures of your farm. In my dreams the farm I have always wanted looks a lot like your farm. So glad to get to come along for the ride.

I have a friend who is always saying “I’m crazy and I know it”. Laughing we tell her “It’s a good kind of crazy”. She lives outside the box. Never meets a stranger. Always has loads of stuff going on. So whether crazy or insane (the good kind) you are the people who make the world go around.

Can’t wait to see your tree.

  17. frontporchindiana says:

And that is all you really need. I had been busy with life for a little while and missed reading your blog. I was stunned and confused when I first came back. Now that I’ve caught up on things all I can say is, “You go, girl!” What an inspiration you are. I love, love, love your new place.

  18. KarenAnne says:

Another thumbs down on the tv 🙂 Bad enough to have one without it dominating that cosy room. Let the crooked little hen inside for company 🙂

  19. holstein woman says:

That says to me that you are really enjoying life to me now.

  20. JeannieB says:

It’s YOUR house, baby, put the TV anywhere you want!! Love the painting that you are doing, can’t wait until Spring, when I just might pop up to see you!!!

  21. JOJO says:

    :woof:
We have a tv in nearly every room of the house, I also like to have the “company” I rarely sit and watch unless it is a program I really enjoy, this time of year I enjoy the Christmas shows, I also have the music channel on–it is a personal choice of how we like to entertain ourselves, and I for one enjoy my “company”. There is no hiding the tv screen, so why worry about it? Life is too short.

  22. Sheila Z says:

No need to defend your TV… to each their own. Your house, your TV, your life and you pay the bills there. I just made the point in an earlier comment that it wasn’t my taste to put a TV over the mantle. Perhaps that was a bit rude. Sorry. But can I also say… I love Sassafrass Farm! It is beautiful.

  23. yvonnem says:

Sheila Z..I agree with you, I didn’t mean to be rude either when I commented. And I totally understand needing the floor space. I’m not much of a TV watcher either and can understand just having the background noise. I have a radio on in the car, my office, the kitchen and even Pandora or Jango on the computer. (I think I just need to keep my opinions to myself!)

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Don’t worry about the TV talk, LOL. It’s okay! When my friends or family come over in person, they feel free to tell me they like or don’t like something or that they wouldn’t do it that way, they’d do it this way. You are all my “virtual” friends. I don’t take offense at discussion!

  24. yvonnem says:

Thank you, Suzanne. I feel “all better” now!

  25. yvonnem says:

…oh, and I can’t wait to see your Christmas tree!
