I know what you mean. I have 10 fluffy-butters and I enjoy their “pantaloons.” We have a light Brahma who has fuzzy feet. We call her “Fuzzy Fur Feet.” She has these massive pantaloons that stick out when she bends over. It’s so cute. You can look out and see 10 fluffy, fuzzy butts sticking up in the air as they merrily dig and route in their yard.

My chickens are slackers too. We have a light, we have a homemade waterer heater, we have LOTS of food, and free ranging. Even roos to keep the ladies happy. Out of 17 girls, we have anywhere from 4-8 laying… Mt Ameracaunas are outright refusing to lay eggs for me, I may get one or two a day. They also don’t like laying them in a nice nest, they just let them fall out while they are running around, or at least they MUST! My Buff’s now, they lay in the nest, and like to hang out in the nests all day!

Crazy chickens. I think I have an addiction problem to fuzzy butts too. I want to hatch more, I want to buy more kinds…. MORE, :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: MORE, MORE!!! :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

I’ve never owned chickens but want to and have been doing research. From my farm friends, apparently chickens don’t lay many eggs when it’s cold. I’m sure there is a joke in there somewhere, but too early on a Monday for me to pull one out.

    With chicken envy,
    Susan

  6. Chic says:

Love those fluffy butts too. We’ve got 8 girls and one beautiful rooster but if we’re lucky we get up to 3 eggs…once in a while…none. It won’t be long until the others start laying..I hope… but at least for now we’re getting enough to use for ourselves so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Next time I order chickens (soon) I’m going to get some that don’t mind the cold! :hungry2:

  8. Angel Pierce says:

:sun: My perfect day is …watching my hobby farm animals being hobby farm animals…. goats grazinging on yummy grasses in the summer, chickens scratching in the fresh dirt after the rain. A small barn filled with aromatic hay for the winter. Knowing all will be safe and warm. All of these make me so happy and grateful for a life filled with blessings all around!

  9. Miss Becky says:

thank you Suzanne, I needed my fluffy butt fix this morning :happyflower:

  10. Ms E says:

If you like “the fluff” you need Silkies!!!

  11. Nancy in Iowa says:

Did you let them watch the goat goings-on? That might have been enough excitement to send them to the nesting boxes to lay eggs!!!

  12. Barbee' says:

Maybe their bodies need a rest and a break for a while from making eggs before the work of spring babies comes along. They are cute little female busybodies. Seems they need little aprons or something while they scratch, eat, and gossip.

  13. Tobey says:

Love the fluffy chicken backsides…but I quickly clicked on the post to read about sheep shearing time! I am a spinner and a knitter (started out with crochet many years ago) so am eagerly awaiting the addition of some FLUFF talk related to the sheepies.

  14. Kristen says:

Are they molting? If so, it’ll take awhile before those darling hens start laying again.

Like my four slackers….cackling at me, begging for scratch, apples, etc. and no eggs in return. :chicken:

My Girrl says patience, mom, they need time to recover. lolol

  15. Cheryl says:

I can really identify with Sarah!

Looking at poultry catalogs is like looking at seed catalogs. I want some of everything!

  16. Lydia says:

I found that when my girls don’t have a soft well carpeted laying box filled with straw, they don’t lay eggs. they’ve taught me to keep the straw up to them :duck:
