Here’s the new barn roof coating in progress:
And here it’s all done!
Responding to questions: I had an aluminum roof coating applied to the barn roof. This is a coating that gives the appearance of a tin roof (it’s silvery in color) and is applied over tin to seal and protect the existing roof. Applied about every five years, it can extend the life of a tin roof for decades. Eventually, of course, you need a new roof, but if your roof is in reasonably good shape, it’s a maintenance measure to carry the roof forward in time. This roof was in pretty good shape, only required some very minor additional patching in a few places, so it’s not time for a new roof yet. The coating itself will seal pin holes in the roof. The roof was cleaned then the coating was applied with brushes and rollers. It went pretty quickly–only took about half the day. Now my barn roof is good to go!
Money could not be better spent than on saving a barn.

In the mobile home industry a product like that is used on the really old tin roofed trailers. It does a pretty good job.You do have to keep it up tho. I’ve seen some trailers that are more than 40 or 50 years old and the coating has preserved the roof. Looks great. I love old barns. Keep it safe!!!! :happyflower:

Looks like something very similar to what we have used, and it IS wonderful stuff. The only thing I do not like about it is that it is impossible to apply it without some weird streaks, but it is designed to maintain the roof, so I can live with it being totally functional and a bit less on the pretty scale. 😉
Looks great! :snoopy:

Your barn looks great with the newly sealed roof…no more rust. I’m so glad you did that to protect your beautiful barn.
