Answers for You

Thank you so much for all your answers! And while I’m trying to answer questions directly on the previous post here, there are a few questions that need a bit of visual assistance, so I’ve taken some screenshots to show you around.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus print function!

On every recipe post on my site, there is a print button above the ingredients list. This will take you to a clean, graphics-free printable page.

In case you miss the first print button, there is a second print button at the bottom of every recipe post on my site, along with a link to the Cooking archives.

See where it also says See this recipe at Farm Bell Recipes and save it to your recipe box? That link takes you to the simultaneously posted recipe at Farm Bell Recipes in case you prefer to print it there or just save it to your recipe box (so you don’t have to hunt it down later).

Every recipe I’ve posted on my blog here since Farm Bell Recipes launched has been double-posted to FBR. Meanwhile, I have been working (with the help of CindyP) on copying over all of my past recipes. This is a big job. Eventually, they will all be copied over there. All recipes that have been copied over have the link at the bottom of the post directing you to where you can find the recipe on Farm Bell Recipes and save it to your recipe box.

There are easy ways to find past posts so you don’t have to hunt, though! Scroll down in the sidebar to your right and you will find a calendar–click on any day you missed and you will find all the posts from that day. See just above the calendar where it says Search This Blog? If you’re not sure when or where what you’re looking for might be, just put the words into the search bar.

You can also find the archives buttons on every blog section (except for Daily Farm–there isn’t a sub-divided archive on this page).

For example, here (below), you know you’re on the Barn page because the little button to the left of the post title says Barn. Look to the right at the sidebar and you’ll find the Barn archives button where all my past animal posts are filed by sub-sections (chickens, dogs, cats, donkeys, goats, etc, they all have their own sub-archive within the Barn archives).

Looking for all my posts about Beulah Petunia? Go to the Barn archives, click on Cows.

You know you’re in the Crafts section here (below) because the button next to the post title says Crafts. To the right you’ll find the Crafts archives button–click there and you’ll find all my posts in crafts sub-divided into sections (and cross-referenced).

Cooking section, and Cooking archives.

Every main archive page is divided into sub-sections to help you find what you need. For example, on the main Cooking archives page, you’ll find a sub-section menu of appetizers, breads, main dishes, pies, cookies, etc. There is even a Quick Mix section with all my recipes that use Quick Mix, and a Grandmother Bread section with all my recipes that use Grandmother Bread.

The main Cooking archives page:

The Grandmother Bread sub-archive page:

Here are a couple more ways to find things.

You can subscribe to my blog via the RSS feed, and also to the Farm Bell Recipes blog. The RSS feed buttons are at the bottom of every post, plus I have an extra link at the bottom of every FBR blog post.

I also link up every post on my blog and Farm Bell Recipes on Facebook and Twitter. You can find the links to my Facebook and Twitter in the sidebar in the section below my photo.

You can also find links there to my Charleston Daily Mail columns and my YouTube channel. If you’re looking for one of my videos and can’t find it, the fastest way to find it is to just go to my YouTube page and browse all my videos.

And–bookmark this! In response to the confusion about finding BBB winners, I’ve set up a BBB winners page where I will list all the winners by date, comment number, and BBB post. Bookmark it here. I’ve also now added the link to the BBB winners page to the links section below my photo where the Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc links are, so if you lose it, find it again there. (Or just ask!)

Someone asked about clicking through using Previous Post to go back in chronological order. That is still available! It’s an easy way to make sure you haven’t missed any posts because it goes back and back through all my blog section posts (no matter whether it’s crafts, cooking, barn, etc). The only category it skips is the Daily Farm category. To go through the Daily Farm category, click through the post links below via this page. (I’ll have that fixed so the Daily Farm page exclusion is removed from that function. I had had it excluded back when it was originally set up and this was only used as a photoblog page.)

You can find the Previous Post button at the bottom of every post right above the comments section (and there is also a Next post if you start on an older post and want to go forward instead).

You can also get a complete chronological order using this link.

If you still can’t find something, using the calendar, search bar, sidebar links, and archives, you can always drop me a comment (trust me, it’s faster to ask me a question in the comments than to email me!) and I will help you find it.

As soon as I get back from the chicken house!

P.S. I promise to stay down-homey here and never go too foo foo (as one of you put it–I thought that was funny). I’m not interested in foo foo. This is, and always will be, a blog about a farm and simple living. When I think about maybe having more money someday, I think, “I could get a big outdoor apple butter kettle!!!!!” (That’s my idea of being able to afford cool stuff.)

I’m wondering why this link isn’t included anywhere? I think a lot of people who are saying they want chronological mean everything in one place rather than having to go to each category or having to click on a separate link for each post. This link does that. I think I got it off someones comment when you first implemented the changes. https://chickensintheroad.com/blog/2010/ I love it because everything, including Daily Farm, is there.

I can pick up Frank on my next trip there!!!!

  5. Yvonne says:

For people wanting to save recipes, another way is to bookmark them into a recipe folder. Be sure your url shows that recipe, not a general url. You may need to click on the recipe title to get the right url.

Or you can use the print screen key on your keyboard and control v it into Paint. That saves the photos, etc.

I’m one of those people who didn’t realize there was a search function until recently. I think that’s because when there is one, it’s usually on the first screen.

But also, I know you do a huge amount of work on this site, Suzanne, and it shows. Thank you!

I don’t have trouble remembering my password for the main blog because Firefox remembers usernames/passwords if the user wants that.

  9. Sandy says:

I love your blog because it gives me ideas. Hubby even likes some of those ideas. Goats are in our near future partly because of yours. We need to clean up some woodland and they will do a good gob at it. I use the RSS feed into my Google reader and never miss a posting.

This post is right on time..only I’m late in commenting again! Have only been home every other day for two weeks, and have been catching up on missed posts, when returning home. Two days ago I was thinking how easy it was (even for ‘computer stupid’ me) to navigate your new and improved site and that I should leave you an at-ta-girl comment. Truly love reading all of your entries…even if no comments are posted…keep them coming. You are doing a great job..your reader count is some kind of proof right?

Gah! I feel silly now. I went poking around the site again, and found a link to all the videos from the main page. I went diving through the Barn Archives (sheep and dog posts) for the video of Annabelle and Boomer bouncing around the shed, and never found it (It’s in the Country Living section.) But there it is, right on the main page, I just had to scroll down to see it.

Thanks so much! Marvelous! You’re speedy and we all appreciate it.
    Everything explained so nicely.

When I have a favorite recipe of Suzanne’s I print it, but then I write it on a card and put it in my recipe card box. From the Kitchen of Suzanne McMinn. My box was my Mothers and only special recipe’s go in there. Suzanne is making family traditions at our home. It has Grandmother bread right in front since it is the most used.

  15. Blessings says:

Suzanne if you ever get a comment such as this %@G&NNiNooSS it would be the “2” year old mentioned above getting her hands on Daddy’s iphone and saying more CITR!!!!

Thank you Suzanne, especially re. the calendar to find past posts! 🙂

  17. Cindy in Kansas says:

The first time I read your blog, I thought, “whelp, here’s some rich city woman, made her fortune and come back home to live a rustic lifestyle”.

Sorry. As someone else said, I stereotype. It saves time.

I soon realized nothing was further from the truth. You were STRUGGLING! I worried about you.

You seem… better. Not like it’s gotten easier, but like you’ve gotten tougher. Of course, it’s almost Fall. I doubt it gets any better than this on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Winter is a whole other story. Getting up and down that driveway .

I like your animal stories best. I cried when your little hen died. And I don’t even cry when my relatives die.

I hope Frank sticks around. He just seems like a guy who knows how to fix things, if you know what I mean.

  18. Barbee' says:

Suzanne, you surely do a Lot(!!!) of work for us! And, I surely appreciate it, thank you, thank you! Good idea about the outdoor kettle. Apple sauce and apple butter do tend to spit and sputter all over the place. I can just see you stirring it with a wooden paddle, and an audience lined up along the fences watching. Of course in my vision you are wearing one of the aprons. Next thing we know, you’ll be growing sorghum and cooking down molasses.

  19. Jo says:

Ya, you can stick more pics of Frank in every day….*wink*

I missed the question/answer thingy….I just have one question: do you read all of our posts?

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Jo, yes, I read every comment! I try to answer every question, too, but sometimes I read on to the next comment and forget to go back and answer! Or sometimes I get interrupted (like because I just realized a baby goat is out or something, LOL) and then forget to come back and answer. But I try!

  20. Jo says:

Aw! That about makes me cry! 😥 (a good cry) Not only do you do so much hard work for this blog, but then you take the time to read all of our comments?

Suzanne, I am praying that you will be blessed through this blog, in all ways, but especially financially. :fairy:

I stumbled onto your site about 2 months ago and I just love it You have wonderful recipies and your pictures for soap and candle making has given me the confidence to do make them too. I have given up reading another site because all the stress was on using EVERYthing organic. While I know organic is better for you I don’t want to feel like I’m not a good mother and wife when I don’t use it. Keep up the great work. I hope you keep inveting new ways to use the grandmother bread dough, It is the bread That I consistanty baked every week.
