Bucks’ Choice

And then the bucks said, “You want the stile THERE?”

“We want it HERE.”

And so we moved it. Because they were pulling down the fence and jumping over. Over and over. Same spot. Because THEY WANTED IT THERE. They want their stile handy to their buck house.

Okay.

You know how it is Suzanne, you have to let the guys think it was their idea in the first place. Now that they got to arrange the finishing touch, they’ll take all the credit for the whole thing. Can’t you hear them muttering? “Good thing that woman did things the way WE wanted, the whole thing would have been a disaster without us to tell her how it should be!”

  7. Zusiqu says:

Animals do think and do make their wishes known. Sometimes that surprises us, doesn’t it?

So funny – those dang boys always seem to get their own way in the end don’t they? Ps: Love the farm map; it helps to put things in perspective when you write about the farm. Thanks! :happyflower:

Being a lurker here I hate to pop in with a downer but….. LOL…After keeping goats, donkeys, poultry and the gambit of other farm animals here in WV for 30 years, I see a few problems with this set up. To the foxes it will look like you put out hot lunches for them; although fox can easily slip through woven field fence the goat stile will make it much easier for them to enter, then exit with a duck/goose in tow. Gray foxes are feeding pups right now. The bucks WILL NOT prevent this from happening. Also the pond is small for the amount of fowl you want to put on it. Even with a good, year round, fresh water source flowing into it, during the heat of the summer it will become toxic with the amount of poultry poop in it. Well maybe not toxic but the quality of water will be seriously compromised. Do the bucks have a clean place to drink above the pond? I know you love your ducks and it would be a shame for you to loose more, especially for the ducks, but I would be surprised if they make the summer out there. It’s pretty hard to keep free range poultry here in WV. Even if you lock everybody up at night that just stops the coons, fox hunt all day too. Just some things for you to think about. Good luck!

Suzanne, it just occurred to me to wonder, how do YOU get into the duck yard? Is there a people gate, or do you have to use the stile, too?
