Now that the September retreat is over, back to winter prep! I don’t have a wood shed. Maybe someday. But for now, I’ve been keeping wood stored under the deck steps. I’ll also be keeping some wood on the back porch. And I keep wood inside, too–especially during times I’m using wood a lot for heat. My primary source of heat is my free natural gas. Last winter, my furnace broke TWICE and I learned my lesson. I’m stocking up much more wood than I had on hand last year, just in case. There’s still quite a bit more wood waiting to be split, and at least a couple more trees will need to come down to finish up my supply. This pile under the deck steps is just the beginning!
How many cats can you count in this picture?

Four because I think that is a paw sticking out around the deck support beam from a cat sleeping on top of the wood pile.

Leck Kill Farm says:
Hate to say it but yes, termites and lots of other bugs. And mice and snakes, ask me how I know……
A good sprinkling of mothballs will help with the bugs/vermin but then the wood smells like mothballs as well.

People always tell me that…. 🙂 The wood that will be on the porch is the wood that will be used out first, so it won’t be there long.

I see 3 cats as well. You have a nice supply of wood, could you tack a few tarps from the deck frame to help keep snow etc. from blowing in onto the wood?
Hopefully your furnace will do well this winter,it is going to be a bad one so sayeth the farmers and the weatherman—they know these things, we are preparing too.
