Creating A Barrier

This is the steep road on the farm where the poacher went up. We have a heavy chain, padlocked to a tree on each side, across it. I was thinking of replacing it with a gate, but if they will cut or drive down the chain, they will also drive down a gate, so I’m leaving it as is and will see how that works as a deterrent….

These style gates are popular where I live, see example #1 –

but they are probably expensive. I haven’t heard reports of any being run down (they are heavy steel with posts set in concrete) but do know of one case where a cutting torch was used to cut through the bar. But those were particularly determined thieves.

K Rails work well but you would need a backhoe or tractor to move it if you want to drive up the lane.

Hopfully this will help, I would also put up a good sized sign that states “We have and will prosecute any tresspassers or poachers.”

That’s a good start. You should also have No Trespassing signs posted along your borders. In my area they won’t prosecute unless the land is posted.

I see two signs just in that picture, so I don’t think lack of posting is the problem. 😉
