Decking the Halls

The chickens like to get festive at this time of year and put up their holiday lights. The ducks set aside their anti-chicken feelings and helped make the party, but the guineas got lost between the waterer and the door between the chicken yard and the chicken house, so they missed the fun.

The guineas found themselves later when they looked up and realized they were right where they left themselves, in the chicken yard.

It’s hard to be a guinea.

At first glance, it looked like a Nativity scene in the wilderness.

The guineas sound like the goats of the poultry world.

  2. judydee says:

A friend’s father used to say: “They wake up in a new world every morning”. Gotta love those guineas!

  3. CindyP says:

Poor guineas….. love that the chickens and ducks and guineas are all festive 🙂

  4. Sherie Adams says:

I showed this picture to my husband – he said “chicken lights”! Well, that struck me funny . . . . he’s a trucker and when referring to “chicken lights”, it means that a semi has lights all over it – even outlining the trailer! So, you touched a note in the trucker’s world with your “chicken lights”! By the way – I love the lights for the chicken house!

Guineas! They must be the brunt of jokes in the poultry world. They probably have “Dumb Guinea” jokes like our “Dumb Blond jokes”. Oh what a burden to bear. Come to think of it though…they don’t get all of the “fowl”jokes being told.

Blissful, unaware guineas… Oh to be so thought-free… 🙂

  7. northcountrygirl says:

Poor Guineas!! Although there are times when I think my chickens must come mighty close…like when it’s pouring icy rain and there they are standing in the yard looking all bedraggled and forlorn. I point out to them they have a nice warm house to go into. DUH! THEN, on the same note, there they are in the sweltering summer heat…running screaming for their house when I sprinkle them with the hose to make them cool????? There’s something wrong with this picture?? :help:

That looks so pretty….I have to get on my girls to decorate! I’m sure it’s the geese keeping them from doing it. They hate change!

What a lovely picture–when I first looked at it beore I read the post–it lookes like a manger scene.

  10. Lynne says:

I thought it was a manger scene too!

I think they should have lights all the time!

  11. Miss Becky says:

I agree with the other commenters above, it looks like a mystical nativity scene in the deep dark woods. I love this photo.

  12. Ramona says:

It does look like a nativity scene!

Everyone loves to be included in the fun!!!!

  14. SuzzyQ says:

I thought the same thing; reminds me of the stable on Christmas night (Nativity). Very sweet!

  15. Joy says:

I’m gonna have to get some guineas just for the comedy….where do they sleep at night?

  16. BuckeyeGirl says:

guineas sleep wherever they find themselves when the sun goes down, no matter how stupid that place may be. I finally got some guineas but they are so ridiculously foolish that out of 17 at the start, I have 9 at the moment. They’re young though, I figure by spring I’ll have 3 left! They are truly examples of survival of the fittest.

Love the image though! I may have to go out and hang a few lights on the coop!

  17. Whaledancer says:

It does look like a nativity scene. It reminds me that the nativity scene isn’t just something put up as a Christmas decoration, but the story about a young couple finding shelter in something like a goat house after a long journey, and the woman giving birth there. I hope she had a goat with a smile like Clover’s and a donkey like Jack to comfort and warm her.

These line drawings have your farm animals all over them! Your photo here, by the way, is almost Biblical! You can tell by the URL that these drawings are for you!
