Farmers Market

I’m stopping in at our little town farmers market today to see if I can sell anything. My cousin will be there selling his cornmeal and other things. He convinced me to go, too. I’ll be selling candles, preserves, eggs, breads, maybe pies, we’ll see. I’m not taking much today–we can’t stay long before we have to head to master gardener class #9. (Ten classes in all, which means I’ll be done next week!)

  1. Old WV Broad says:

Suzanne, that is great! I am so proud of you. Congrats on the MG classes as well, I know that is a hard course. One day….sigh.

    Be well,

  2. alosyu says:

What are the preserves you show in the picture? Have you posted the recipes for them? (I do remember the orange slices in triple sec one). They look delicious. Good luck at the farmer’s market. I love going to the one near me.

  3. roosterrun says:

Good luck with the market. I always enjoy stopping and talking to all of the vendors. Where did you get the cute egg carton?

  4. bonita says:

another step into your future…great job, (and great cousin)

  5. AnnieB says:

Wow….I haven’t seen an egg carton like that in 30 years! That used to be the norm back then.
Have a great time at the farmers market. Hope you do well!

  6. Michele-lee says:

I wish I lived near you. I would buy something- or some things!

  7. rileysmom says:

I hope you sell all your wonderful creations! I’d worry that I would spend all my earnings!

  8. BuckeyeGirl says:

It’ll be interesting to hear how it goes! Whenever I take things I wind up trading most of my stuff with others at the “Saturday Market” we have in our little town. No money changes hands except from outsiders, but us locals at least go home with ‘different’ stuff!

I bet you’re getting all sorts of valuable reference material and information sources. Will you be on duty with the local extension office to help answer questions? You must be absorbing so much great info!

  9. Laurielee says:

Your jars are really nice looking 🙂 I was thinking about setting up shop at the farmer’s market this year and selling mini pies. I’ve been having a hard time finding packaging though. If anyone knows of a spot that they could share that’d be great 😀

  10. Old WV Broad says:

A website called carries a wide assortment of packaging and mini disposable pans. You can find them through Amazon as well. Their prices on cupcake liners are great. I saw small pie boxes with windows.

If you have a local Amish store nearby, they often carry the various small foil pans.

    Good luck!

  11. rhubarbrose says:

Good for you to take your things to sell at the local market!! A great place to network and to buy locally grown food – even if you just “trade” with other vendors. Your preserves look great! You are one ambitious lady!!!

  12. holstein woman says:

Have fun at the farmer’s market and I pray you sell everything you take.

  13. KarenAnne says:

AnnieB, Do you mean a cardboard egg carton? They are still available where I live. I won’t buy eggs sold in a plastic carton. It annoys me that so-called organic or free range sellers damage the environment by using persist-forever plastic cartons.

    Suzanne: Etsy.

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

KarenAnne, I think she means the particular cardboard egg carton in the picture. That’s a vintage-style egg carton.

Alas, I was delayed getting out of here yesterday afternoon, and since I also had to get to master gardener class, that didn’t give me any time to take my stuff to the farmers market. I probably won’t have time to do it until after master gardener class is over, though I may try again next week if I can get out of here earlier so that I have time to set my stuff up!

  14. proud mountaineer says:

are you talking about the farmers market outside of spencer? what days is it open? would so love to have some of your cousin’s cornmeal. love your labels.

  15. JustUgly says:

Ooooo. Liability insurance for candlemakers is CRAZY priced. Does your homeowners cover your making candles in your little studio? Most don’t.

    Just sayin’…..
