Georgia called me to come photograph her peonies. She said they wouldn’t last long and she sounded worried. It took two days before there was a sunshiny day with no rain for me to stop and they were still blooming beautifully. She was so happy!
P.S. I told her that was a flame azalea and she said, “Well.”
She’s very verbose, our Georgia. She also says thank you.

I love that Georgia wants you to take pictures of all her blooming plants. She’s a lot like my grandmother and always brings sweet memories to mind. :happyflower:

Nothing is more old-fashioned that peonies. My grandmother didn’t have many flowers, but she had peonies……and iris.
Tell Georgia they are beautiful. My beauties got way too much rain and most were laying on the ground in a day or two.

Peonies are my absolute favorite flower! As a child, I used to stick my face into the peonies and inhale that scent…and probably a few ants, too. Love the smell of peonies! Georgia is really fortunate to have such beautiful flowers.

I don’t if Georgia does this with her peonies, but my local nursery told me to cut the lower part off a tomato cage and put that around the peony as they start to come up each spring. The cage gives them the support they need, you can’t see the cage as the leaves hide it AND they last longer!! It’s a GREAT trick ๐ I love Georgia’s peonies too ๐

To me, peonies = grandmother. And, I can just smell the wonderful soapy fragrance while looking at their picture. Aren’t those pinked edges of the petals beautiful and amazing?!

Beautiful peonies. One advantage of living in the south is the peonies blooming this time of year. Mine probably have a couple of more weeks. The white ones are incredible. Thank Georgia for sharing her beautiful flowers.

If Georgia says “Booshes” for “bushes”, how does she pronounce “peonies”?Im not too familiar with W.Va accents.

Almost all of my husband’s relatives who live in W. Va. pronounce them pineys. I grew up in a town that had a nursery that grew peonys and had acres and acres of trial fields. You can hardly go on any street in town that does not have oodles of them growing. I have probably 25 bushes or more of most every color there is. I used to have a tree peony, but they are not as hardy as the bushes and our harsh Iowa winters took a fatal toll.

Suzanne, You ought to have that photo printed 8×10 and frame it for Georgia. You could give it to her this Fall or Winter.

Suzanne – just stumbled into this blog. Great peony picture! Wish I can take great pictures like you, especially since I have a peony farm of over 90 varieties.
I tried to take pictures when they’re in bloom and do OK. I just love peonies! They are wonderful in the garden, as cut flowers and as you have demonstrated above – as pictures.
Thanks for being my friend on Facebook.
