I Wave But It Doesn’t Wave Back

Why aren’t my “Wave Petunias” waving? I’ve never grown them before, but I thought they would be cascading out of my hanging pots by now, two months later, but nothing’s happening. They’re just sitting there. They get sunlight about half the day, and I’ve tried Miracle Gro.

  1. Shelly says:

It’s all about the soil (and the light.) May just take a little longer before they really grow.

  2. Lynda Dunham-Watkins says:

I tried those once and didn’t have any luck with them, very little waving went on! Maybe yours will perk up!

  3. Rita Wendt says:

    I have noticed too that the flower is smaller and not large and wavey like when I first bought them several years back. Hope someone can shed some light on this. Mine look a lot like yours. =}

  4. Christine says:

Well that’s interesting. Mine have gone wacko and have outgrown their pot and are attempting to take over the world. I’ve done absolutely nothing to them. In fact you could say I’ve completely ignored them. Maybe that’s the key?

  5. Barbee' says:

I don’t know what is wrong with yours, but it reminds me of the summer when everything I had that was suppose to cascade grew straight up, and everything that was suppose to be erect, draped down.

  6. Tonia says:

They need full sun. My mom grows Wave petunia and regular petunias. Hers are absolutely beautiful. She waters them every other day(if it doesnt rain) and they are in Full sun.

  7. B. Ruth says:

May be in competition with the other vining plant in your basket…Your petunia should be your main cascading plant…also petunias need full sun with minimum shade…lots of fertilizer, moist, but no wet feet….
PS…I’m a “nipper in the bud” when planting person, too…it seems to make them set mutiple side shoots that take off with tons of blooms..when they slow down, pinch’em again…
PS..I know I get movin’ when someone pinches me……!

  8. Michele says:

I just read that Wave Petunias need at least 6 hours of direct sun to grow well and are heavy feeders even with Miracle Grow you need to fertilize twice as often.

  9. Melissa Marsh says:

Mine are barely hanging on. My mom was visiting last week and she replanted them with fertilizer-rich soil, but I don’t know if they’re going to come out of it. I just do NOT have a very green thumb!

  10. Nancy says:

Just curious… what is the hanging canning jar on the wall next to your petunias for?

    • Suzanne says:

That jar is a battery-operated firefly jar!

      • B. Ruth says:

I want one of those (lightening bug) jars……like we don’t have enough of them around…but we just love em’..I might just make one!
Ponder: I wonder if a person could just buy plastic bugs (sort of look alike fireflies)from the craft store…humm.. and attach them on a LCD mini light string and glue the battery box in the lid….Hummm…..poke the whole wiring thingy down ‘willy nilly’ in the jar and let’er rip..err blink..
PS…hummm….to keep the green wire from showing one could use one of Grandmas old blue canning jars….hummm

  11. B. Ruth says:

    We don’t have a Gooseberry Patch here in Tennessee….but we have a Brair Patch, a Blueberry Patch, a ‘baccer patch..(no not that kind)….and a Quilt patch….but can’t find it…
Have to wait til I come to WV I guess…but thanks a million…
PS…Guess I’ll just keep doing the catch, blink and release method…hmmm
