If You Don’t Like the Weather

–just wait, it will change! (I’ve heard that saying about every state I’ve ever lived in. I think every state thinks they own that phrase.) We’ve had particularly crazy weather this weekend here. Wild rain and tornado warnings on Friday. A beautiful clear, sunny day on Saturday (for cow moving, whew). Snow started yesterday. Wow. If a few leaves changed color, we’d have had all four seasons in one weekend.

Ross heads back to South Carolina today. He had a four-day weekend. In a month, he finishes up the final phase of nuclear power training and will ship out–somewhere. He has requested King’s Bay, Georgia or Norfolk, Virginia, trying to stay close to home. He doesn’t know yet. He didn’t leave without giving me a little lesson with my new power drill! I need more practice, but it was fun.

Uhoh, Suzanne is on the loose with the power drill, LOL. So many things you can do with it, a real time saver too ! :sun:

I am SOOOOOO keeping my fingers crossed for Norfolk, because that would DRAMATICALLY increase the chances of you coming here for a book tour (RIGHT?). The Virginia Urban Homesteaders League would LOVE to host a dinner for you. We all love CITR!

Please convey our thanks to Ross for his service. But I wonder about the wisdom of showing you how to use a drill and then leaving town! errr on reflection, that may have been a wise choice…we’ll see!

The weather has been crazy this weekend! The snow was a nice suprise this morning 🙂 Safe Travels for Ross!

    Cordless drills are great.

I got one for Christmas and love it.

If you haven’t already, you need to get a
supply of different size dry wall screws
and self tapping metal screws. You will be
amazed at how handy that drill will be.

You have to remember to keep the battery
charged. Sometimes I run out of power in
    the middle of a project.

You can buy extra batteries for them.
    That would be really convenient.

Maybe I’ll get one of those for my birthday.

In the first photo ~Is that a couple of chickens, one in the yard and one on the fence? Love that photo of the barn and light in the snow. Ross is looking good.
bet you miss him and Weston when they leave.

  7. TeaCup says:

Glad you had fun and that it was useful too! Power drills are great.

I hope Ross gets one of his requesting postings.

If you had Christmas lights on the barn that picture would make a beautiful Christmas card, or screen saver. Just an idea, winter will be back before we know it. I don’t think she has left yet, I’m betting on an April snow fall.

  9. Sue, a Florida Farm Girl says:

See, that’s the thing. Some folks can take an ordinary event and make a TALE of it. The rest of us? Boring as watching paint dry!!! Anyway, sure hope Ross gets something on the east coast. There aren’t that many bases for the nukes, so the choices are slim.

  10. Stacy says:

We’re in the Norfolk area (Chesapeake). My husband has been in the Navy for 20 years, but he doesn’t work with subs. But, you can stay with us whenever you want to visit Ross, if he gets stationed here.

Love the picture of the barn at night!! I know you just offered the desktop of Casper, which I love and am using it now, thank you. I would love to have that picture of the barn at night as our desktop! I’m like you..love barns and absolutely love yours! By the way Ross looks really handsome. I know you are really proud of all your kids. They all seem like great kids! Thanks for all you do. Your blog makes my day complete.

  12. BuckeyeGirl says:

You should post that pic on the “I Break For Barns!” FB page Suzanne!

  13. joykenn says:

What–even snow won’t get some stubborn chickens to join their fellow birds inside where it’s warmer. Is it like the kids around here who insist on wearing shorts when its 50 degrees cause they don’t like the IDEA of winter so they’re in denial.

  14. Rainn says:

 This photo of your barn in the nighttime snow is the best I’ve seen in forever!! Everytime I see this barn-I say to myself-“Suzanne so deserves this barn!” …….all things aside I think you got the better end of the deal!! well just had to say it! Can’t wait to see you in Sept!! and my check is coming by snail mail to you for kickstart-Amazon and I had a falling out a couple yrs ago and even though I tried to make nice in order to sign up-it wouldn’t fly!!
    Rain :sun:
