Jack is so in love with Poky. He’d be embarrassed about all the doting, but he’s TOO IN LOVE.

Do all mal donkeys’ act this way, or is it just Jacks personality? They are such a cute couple…

Are they miniature donkeys? When is the baby coming? I want one or two maybe even three sooooo sweet those faces. Do they actually protect also?

Suzanne McMinn says:
Yes, they are miniature donkeys. We don’t know when the baby will come. Maybe next summer! They “supposedly” protect, but I think the only real way they protect is that they make a huge racket if something is bothering them. If something came into the yard, they’d make a lot of noise.

I think Jack and Pokey are the most delightful beasts on your farm. Have you ever considered obtaining a couple of pack baskets and a rig to get Jack to help you carry groceries up the driveway in the winter? Having a “job” might help him to lessen his obsession. Of course, being a small donkey, he couldn’t carry a great deal of weight, but if he’s sound enough, he could be a great help, and who else would work for carrots!

Awww, that’s so sweet. But don’t be surprised, Suzanne, when Poky gets ready to have her foal, and most definitely afterward, she won’t allow Jack to get close. Momma donkeys are VERY protective of their babies, as most mommas are. Our Sassafras will kick the living carp out of Hawthorne. Also, when Sassy was near delivery of a subsequent baby, she’d kick away last year’s baby, trying to wean it from her in preparation for the new one. Not saying Poky WILL do that, but it’s been our observation of the donkeys here at Meadow Muffin Farms.
