Little likes to climb on the outside of the porch railing, high above the ground. I’m so worried about him falling! Seconds after this picture was taken, he almost did fall. He hung on by his claws and managed to scramble back up. Make him stop!

He’s a fearless little fella. Your staff needs to have a little talk with him

I suppose if you put chicken wire across the pickets, he’d simply walk on the railing.
If it reassures you at all, I worked for a vet for over 8 years and we never treated a cat injured in a fall. It happens, but not that often for as much as they clambor around high places. I had a cat jump off our upstairs porch. I forced myself to look over the edge & she was running for the field.
Or you could stick an old mattress or a pile of straw under the edge he favors. :help:

Cats are climbers! I am surprised he almost fell, cats are pretty good about that. He will get better at it as he grows. I used to have a huge male cat that liked to sit on the rooftop and look out over the neighborhood.

:snoopy: Good Luck with “teaching” a cat anything. They are aliens and only do what they’re told by their Mother-ship. Ever notice your cat perk up, whip his head around and stare in another direction at nothing? Yup, getting directions from home!

One of our cats walks the railing of our balcony to the second floor of the our A-Frame. One day she jumped from it to the window ledge, ten feet above the living room. We were in a panic, we ran for lumber to make a bridge; we contemplated calling the fire department. Then she decided to reverse her trail, and she jumped from the window ledge to the rail, to the floor. She looked at us like, “What?”

Reminds me of those news reports of cats falling from high rise buildings…and walking away…(Surely with that cat look that plainly says, “I MEANT to do that…)

As Cousin Mark likes to say, “Did you ever see a cat skeleton in a tree?” ๐
Cats will either come down or jump down from high places. I bet firemen get really annoyed when they get called out for cats in trees and other crazy places. :pawprint:
Heavy frost at the old farmhouse this morning….winter is creeping along! :turtle: :snowman:

The next step will be jumping down. He wants OUT! At least for a leisurely prowl around the hen house until dinner time.
We had to screen in our porch which helped a lot. I only have two cats so it was an easy compromise to take Smokey for a walk in the backyard now and again to buy his cooperation to not tear up the screening.

Little, besides being darling, is making a dare that he can walk on the outside of the rail and not fall off. Precious little bugger he is

Oh my gosh, Suzanne, don’t you know that cat’s have nine lives? I never understood people who call the fire dept. to get the cat out of the tree. THEY WILL COME DOWN! And they’ll be just fine! lol They know exactly what they’re doing.
Have you ever visited the icanhazcheeseburger site? I think you would get a kick out of it…. ๐

Little is a “monorail kitteh”. My monorail kittehs walk the split rail fence around our yard. Now they are walking along the lines of wood we have split and stacked. A kitteh balance beam of sorts. If you build it, they will walk it.

Cat like to watch humans’ eyes bug out. They have learned that the best attention getters are high-wire acts. Since they have such good hearing, they can hear your heart racing. The faster it races the more points they score with the other cats. Cat with the highest score wins. Bonus points for more than one person with a racing heart. ๐ If you can get a silly human to call the FD and they respond, it’s like catching the Golden Snitch. Game/match over, you WIN! :devil2:

My husband just saw our cat, Roxanne, climb up the rungs of a ladder and onto our very high, very slanted roof. She likes it up there and she about gives me a heart attack every time!

My sister’s cat actually fell from their balcony to the basement level. So, it was a good story little Tig fell. She turned landed on her feet and turned out just fine. Cats are amazing like that!
