Name These Bucklings

I’m trying to get my act together and get these last two babies registered and sold. The above photo is Sprite’s baby. The below photo is Clover’s baby.

Sprite’s baby is a purebred Fainter, but Clover’s baby is half-Fainter, half-Nigerian Dwarf. The Myotonic Goat Registry will register him as a 50 percent myotonic. (They are more interested in the myotonic gene than breed.)

In order to complete the registration, I need names! We just call them Sprite’s baby and Clover’s baby, but that doesn’t sound real official….. And my brain is drawing a blank. Sprite’s baby should definitely be a soda pop name. Since the other one is half-Nigerian Dwarf, he could be a soda pop, or not. (And whoever buys them can call them whatever they want. It’s common for animals to be called one thing when their official papers say something else. People LIKE to have papers in hand when they buy the animal.)

Help?

UPDATE: I named them Dr. Thunder (Sprite’s baby) and Wink (Clover’s baby). THANK YOU for the help! I was so in love with so many of the names, it was hard to choose. I’ll definitely be coming back to the comments on this post as my baby-naming resource next go-round.

  1. SoBelle says:

I think Sprite’s baby should be “Nehi” (pronounced Knee-HIGH…cute for a baby, too) like the Grape, Orange and Peach old-fashioned soda. https://www.crossroads-market.com/hard-to-find-grocer/Nehi-Peach-Soda-6-pk-12oz/productinfo/HFBE203/ OR “RC” (short for Really Cute) and also an old-fashioned soda.)
Clover’s baby should be “Clovis” after her! :shimmy:

  2. SoBelle says:

Clover’s baby could be “Sunkist” if you want a soda name! :sun:

  3. merng says:

I’m going with Nesbitt and Squirt, both soda names.

  4. brookdale says:

Love Nehi and Sunkist! Nehi is “knee-high” and Sunkist has sun-kissed spots on his sides.

  5. denny144 says:

How about Squirt for Sprite’s baby?

  6. alba says:

  8. sew4magpie says:

    Milligan (root beer)

    Vernor (ginger ale)

  9. Sue, a Florida Farm Girl says:

Sprite’s baby looks like Oreo!!!! And Clover’s baby looks like TicTac or Domino.

  10. dystinee24 says:

How about Shamrock for Clover’s baby and Sun Drop for Sprite’s baby?

  11. Anita says:

    I like Nehi and Clovis.

  12. nessastorm says:

Sprite’s baby should be named Cola after all it is in the Coke family or Squirt I really like that one and it is still in the family.

Clover’s baby you could call Domino 4. It looks like the #4 domino block.

Our bucks are crazy so Loco may be a good one. Seriously considering that for one of our pygmy goats next time around.

  13. luvliljo says:

I agree with Brookdale, Squirt is really cute. For Clover’s baby how about Lucky?

  14. Keeku77 says:

I agree with BethieofVA, Fanta and Shasta are really cute names! They are absolutely adorable πŸ˜€

  15. BuckeyeGirl says:

Oh Alba! I hope you are doing ok and that your day (week?) gets better. Wishes for speedy healing for your wrist!

As far as names go, Sarsaparilla (or Sassparilla but that’s not correct spelling) Nehi is good too, I never heard of Clovis, but it’s a cute name!

Better to save Yahoo for a brown kid if you ask me…

  16. DancesInGarden says:

Another vote to name Clover’s baby “Sarsparilla” – it’s an herb AND a soda, which makes it the perfect mixture.

As for Sprite’s baby? I like Coke too for some reason. Or Guiness, which is more of a beer than a soda but it’s still sorta fizzy, right?

  17. Donna says:

Nesbit and Squirt are good sounding buckling names – I like those. Keeping the REALLY good soda pop names for Stringtown Rising farm would be a good idea, though, wouldn’t it? :clover:

  18. justdeborah2002 says:

Shasta and Wink….both great kid’s pops

  19. Granny Trace says:

    Tab and R.C!!

  20. Imperious Fig says:

I like Granny Trace’s “Tab” and “RC”

  21. Liz Pike says:

Well, since they won’t be permanent residents, I’d give them generic soda-pop names like Dr Thunder, or Mountain Mist (call him Misty). Reserve the name brands for family πŸ˜€

You can see a listing of generic names here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_citrus_sodas

  22. hollygee says:

    Root Beer?
    Cola or Pepsi?
    Cocoa, latte, machiatto?

  23. quietstorm says:

How about Stewarts? & They have a black cherry soda named Wishniak

    WISHNIAK BLACK CHERRY
Black Cherry Wishniak is an old-fashioned soda that is a genuine black cherry flavor. Its rich, sweet, dark and delicious. Black Cherry Wishniak originated in Europe and has become an American Tradition. Its popularity began in Philadelphia in the late 40s and quickly spread to New York and Baltimore

So maybe Stewart & Wishniak?? I like Tab too – used to drink TONS of that stuff…. hard to find now…

OH Alba!!! {{{{huggs}}}} Get some rest! Hope you are feeling better soon!

  24. AmyCook in WI says:

    Sprites baby = “Mugs” Malone
    Clovers baby = “Tab” Hunter

  25. Mavis says:

How about “Spriggan” for Sprite’s baby? I know Sprite is named after the soda, but a “sprite” is also a mythical creature derived from the Latin term “spiritus” meaning spirit. And the Celtic version of that word is derived from the word “Spriggan”. Just a thought πŸ™‚

  26. CarrieJ says:

I have no ideas…but I KNEW these comments were going to be funny!

  27. MalagaCove says:

My idea was to find Nigerian soda names, which I didn’t. But soda pop/carbonated beverages are generically called “mineral” there, so I’d suggest that for the Nigerian mix.

My refreence is wiki too. Here:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_soft_drinks#Nigeria

    Judi

  28. JOJO says:

    :woof:
    PEPSI & COLA
They are so sweet–I am speaking of the bucklings!

  29. Blessings says:

Since they are to be sold I say name them Waylon & Willie..!!! They are some of the Best ole country boys after all!
    ~~HUGS~~

  30. CasieD says:

I like Nehi or Squirt and Clovis!

  31. mamajoseph says:

Krest and Stoney are a couple of the sodas we have in Kenya. I don’t know about Nigerian sodas, but could probably find out if you want. Also, Malta is another one sold in this part of the world.

  32. Flowerpower says:

Mountain Dew and Seven up :happyflower:

  33. aprilejoi says:

When I was growing up in Los Angeles,on a clear day you could see the snow-capped Shasta mountains. Thats also the name of a line of soda pop sold on the West Coast. Thats my vote for Sprite’s baby: Shasta.

  34. Turtle Mom says:

Moxie for Sprite’s baby and CJ for Clover’s.

  35. yvonnem says:

I really, really like Squirt for Sprite’s baby (I have the pic you took after he was born on my desktop – he looked so mischievous, like a “little Squirt”!)

And I like Domino for Clover’s baby.

  36. Turtle Mom says:

Moxie (Sprite’s little one) and CJ.

  37. Madeline says:

How about “BARQUE” for barque’s root beer? I also like Squirt and RC!

  38. Chickenlady62 says:

I like Squirt for Sprite’s wee one and how about another type of ground cover for clover’s like Buckwheat πŸ™‚

You can google a list of “soda names” that is how I found squirt. I couldn’t remember the name I had on the tip of my tongue until I did that.. all I could think was “Citrus soda”

    TinaH

  39. brendaE says:

Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb – or do you already have one named Mr. Pibb?

  40. yvonnem says:

brenda, Suzanne has already used both of those names.

  41. Luann says:

    sasparilla for one of ’em

  42. countrydreams64 says:

I don’t have any names to add….but I do agree with Liz. That’s a good idea.

  43. BrownSheep says:

Clover should be SURPRISE…due to his unexspected nature.
    Sprite’s could be Carbonate or

  44. enjay says:

To me they look like floats, I’d name one Coke Float and the other Root Beer Float.
But I do like the generic soda idea. Dr Thunder is a fav here LOL

  45. whaledancer says:

I like RC and Tab; they sound like boy names. But if you’d like to use more obscure names for the kids who will be sold, you could choose old-time local brands, like Lemmy (lemon soda) and Howdy (precursor to 7Up).

  46. brenda s okie in colorado says:

I like SnowCap for Sprite’s baby and Spectator (as in spectator pumps) for Clover’s baby. I also like Ebony Ivory McMinn.

  47. KellyWalkerStudios says:

Sister-in-Law and niece visiting on way home from Maine and say that Sprite’s baby should be named “Moxie” – a drink that is very well-known up there. They have festivals in it’s honor.

  48. ladybird_1959 says:

I’m thinking 7-Up for Sprite’s baby and Coca Cola for Clover’s baby.

  49. VAfarmer says:

I think RC Cola for Sprite’s buckling, and Moon Pie for Clovers! Cause nothing goes together better on a hot day than an RC Cola and a Moon Pie!

  50. Grouchymama says:

Well, I was going to suggest Nehi and RCc but someone else beat us to it. I really like Squirit, too. Small world!

  51. LMo says:

OK, it’s not a soda brand name, but what about Fizz for Sprite’s baby?
As for Clover’s, there’s a grapefruit soda made in Jamaica called Ting.
Fizz and Ting–short, cute names for short, cute boy goats.

  52. anghaley says:

πŸ˜‰ I agree with Sue, Sprite’s baby does look like an Oreo cookie. Oreo and Sidekick. I know…they are not soda names, but, hey, I tried.

  53. pamplemousse says:

    RC and Sassafras πŸ˜€

  54. EightPondFarm says:

No good names to suggest, but the chocolate drink is Yoo-Hoo, not Yahoo. We just went through this since we usually name our lambs starting with the registration letter of their birth year — and this year that was “Y”. “Y” was not so bad, but last year was “X”…. Toward the end, we called one ram lamb “X-Hellboy” (big horns) and just explain the X is silent. πŸ˜•

  55. twiggityNDgoats says:

I offer to let the new owners name them then I send in the registration application for them. You could give them a theme to stick to if you want to. Not so good though if you want to hand them a registration certificate. But then you have to make sure they actually send it in to transfer it.

  56. melindakay says:

Gosh I love nehi for Sprite’s baby and maybe pepper for Clover’s. Clover’s kid should be spicy though he is black. I can only think of Black Tea or Pepper.

I’m new to your site and just love it! :shimmy:
