This is what it looks like outside my house right now. You can’t even see the road. There was a visitation last night for Mike, and another one today before the service, and driving home, I thought, I hope Mike is looking down from heaven and knows how much we loved him that I got on the road today for him. I’m such a panicky winter driver. I was too scared of the worsening road conditions (it’s still snowing) to stay for the service, but we went to the visitation beforehand. It was a truly sad but beautiful thing and I’m so glad we went. They had a book there, with sketches and jokes he liked AND my post about Mike, whole thing, printed out with the pictures and all the comments. Someone even said “WWMD” (what would Mike do) to me, to think of it when I’m riding, referring to a comment made here. I just wanted you all to know that the family did see your comments and that they meant something to them. Thank you.

I’m so glad you made it to the service, and back home safely. You wrote a very touching post about him and I’m glad his family found comfort in it as well as the comments. I know they were all sincere. I feel so sad for all of is family and friends, but especially his wife. I can’t imagine losing my husband.

I am so sorry. He sounds like a special man, that brought happiness to many. My heart goes out to
your family and his..such a loss and so young. Blessings to all of you. I know a few folks like him, that have a special bond with horses, and their greatest satisfaction is to teach others how to share in that world. Be comforted in knowing how happy he must have been to see the joy in your face, and to know he passed on a little of himself to you.

I’m so glad you ventured out in the storm. I know everyone was BLESSED to have a copy of your post. I also am a panicky winter driver so I know how scared you must have been. I’m glad for you that you went. You will never regret going.

In these less than perfect times, when the news holds more bad than good, it is comforting to know that people can be kind and gentle and that it touches people and they appreciate it. Mike was kind and good to you, you in turn wrote a beautiful memorial to him, your readers wrote from their heart and expressed their sympathy and sadness for a life cut short, and finally his friends and family were comforted by those words you wrote and the thoughts of your readers. Mike may have claimed ownership of his heavenly home but his goodness lives on.

Suzanne, I’m so sorry for your and his family’s loss. Though Mike’s time was short, his legacy and memory will be long. To have our lives touched, even though briefly, by someone like Mike is to have received one of God’s greatest blessings. Prayers will continue for his family and yours.

Sounds like a lovely service. I loved they put out the sketches, and your post. That was such a nice thing to do to share with family and friends. You know someone was extra special when their family takes the time to do such lovely things. Sorry for your loss of this friend. Just know that he has touched your lives in such a wonderful way. He will always be there.
