See how this rooster–the new dominant rooster in the yard–comes up to the porch, does his standing-on-one-leg trick, then sneaks a glance back to see if I’m looking? He totally cares. THIS ONE LOVES ME.

It’s a blessing Mean Rooster bit the dust. New Rooster has a chance to shine now. Does he have a name? He looks like a King Tut to me. If he turns mean down the road, well don’t let him terrorize you like Mean Rooster did. Move him on and let a newer rooster have his day in the sun. I’ve got a Rhode Island red rooster here that is a gentle one so far. However, if he ever turns on me I won’t hesitate he’s off to freezer camp. I loves me some free range chicken soup!

    :snoopy: How cool is that!!

  3. NorthCountryGirl says:

He sure is pretty…for a guy! Still, I kind of miss Mean Rooster and reading about his antics.

  4. Holly says:

    Freezer Camp?! That’s funny Sheila!!

  5. CindyP says:

Oh, he’s beautiful and looks so stately up there on the railing!

  6. wheezay says:

He’s beautiful and got talent. :chicken:
Mean Mr. Rooster was one of a kind.

  7. Runningtrails says:

He’s a beautiful rooster. Is the head roo the only one that ever comes up to the porch. Do your roos vie for “head roo” often. Do they fight much? I want another one for a higher percentage of fertilized eggs. I have 19 hens to one rooster, but I don’t want a lot of fighting.

    :snowman: :woof: :snowman:
WHEN A ROOSTER LOVES YOU–IT MEANS YOU HAVE TO BE A VERY SPECIAL KIND OF PERSON. I WAS RAISED ON A FARM, AND WAS ALWAYS AFRAID OF THE ROOTSERS–AND THEY KNEW IT!!

  9. Chic says:

That’s cute…I love roosters. So far I’ve only had one and he’s just the nicest fellow…loves his ‘girls’ and is really good to them and watches out for them. When Phoebe the dinkey donkey was in the same pen as the chickens I’m afraid he couldn’t do much to protect them but Phoebe is moved now and can’t terrorize them any longer…thank heavens! :hungry2:

  10. KentuckyFarmGirl says:

I finally have 2 roosters that are sweethearts. They don’t like each other much but they love me and it makes life a lot easier! Your rooster is beautiful!

  11. Lynn says:

Lol! I’m new to your blog, but had to laugh! I have a YOUNG dominant rooster who I believe does love me! He’s the sweetest ever!

  12. Heidi533 says:

He’s a very pretty rooster. A nice rooster makes so much difference in the barn yard.

  13. Valerie says:

A happy ending to the Mean Rooster story. It’s hilarious how these chicken/rooster folks like to come up on the porch. No bugs up there to eat..perhaps SOMEONE has given them scraps of Grandmother Bread up there?

  14. Angela says:

    Hey Suzanne!

It must had been love at first site!

    Angela

  15. lisa says:

Sheila don’t you mean King Strut!

  16. Claudia says:

    He’s a beauty!

  17. Miss Becky says:

oh he has a lovely, fluffy butt

  18. Nancy in Iowa says:

Hold on a moment – are you sure he loves you, or is he just surveying his new territory and feeling full of himself!??? :chicken:

  19. CityGirl says:

Stupid question, what do you do with the rooster chicks when they hatch? Wait till they’re big enough to eat?

  20. Barbee' says:

Lisa and Sheila, that is just toooo funny! I think together you got it: King Strut! 😆 Now it seems to me that a smart rooster would understand and know that Suzanne means well for his little family and would do them no harm and only good. I think King Strut knows that. I also think that Mean Rooster never figured it out; he was not at all bright; and he was half-a-bubble-off-plumb! Poor ole’ Mean Rooster, good riddance and may he rest in peace! His demise may remain in the farm’s lore forever… where did that white knight come from and where did he go?! Great mystery story, best mystery of the year!

  21. Jo says:

    Lovely rooster!

Guess what I got for Christmas from my two boys? A book called, “Keeping Chickens”. It’s a guidebook on about anything you need to know about getting and keeping them. It was my favorite gift! Looking forward to having chicks this spring. :chicken:

  22. B. Ruth says:

    Hmmmmm…..
I wonder who the incarnate, sweet cheeks, mean rooster is harrasing now….He’ll show up he always does….
I’m serious as a heart attack…I have the scars to prove it…that rooster comes back and comes back….
    B. Ruth

  23. kerri says:

King Strut sounds like the perfect monicker for this handsome (and clever) new Lord of the manor :chicken:
Even though Mean Rooster’s aggressive character made for some funny and interesting stories, I’m glad you no longer have to contend with his nastiness. Sheila’s freezer camp is the way to go! That was my MIL’s strategy too :hungry:
The mystery surrounding his demise made a fascinating tale. I wonder if you’ll ever see the phantom stranger again, or whether the mystery will ever be solved. I agree with Barbee’ – best mystery of the year!

  24. J says:

What’s that whiskey that is about a Catain? In the advertisement if your a captain then you strike that pose standing on one leg.
O Dang it! :pirate: Somebody has to know what I’m talking about…???
    Anyway cool HeadRooster :shimmy:

  25. sumn6587 says:

I have two big black cochin roosters, Moe & Larry. I refer to my flock of 20 as “Moe, Larry & the Girl’s. So far they are not mean at all. Very cool chickens, getting 16 eggs a day!

  26. Ms E says:

I think he’s conning you to score a spot on the blog – Jack will NOT be happy!

  27. Jodie says:

    LOL… freezer camp!

  28. J says:

Thanks Lynn. 😆 That’s the one
