We’re expecting a plague of locusts next.

Since you mentioned the weather, I wanted to share with you what I read this morning on the farmers almanac web site. Just weather lore, but interesting non the less.
For your cows: An old bit of lore states, “Tails pointing west, weather’s at its best. Tails pointing east, weather is least.” Cows and horses usually stand with their backs to the wind, and westerly winds often mean arriving or continuing fair weather.
A spoon shape inside of a persimmon seed represents a snow shovel, and warns that heavy snow is on the way.
The number of foggy days in August is said to correspond with the number of snowy days during the coming winter.

We had floods yesterday and cold frosty windshields this morning in Alabama. At least we missed out on the tornadoes this time around. Enjoy your snowy day home.

It’s snowing here in Wisconsin too, but just flurries. I’m looking forward to the first snowfall, but I live on the edge of a city and only have to wait for the plows to come through! BTW, I WANT THAT GOAT in the second photo. Who is that??? :airkiss: :airkiss:

Northern’s Lady, I’m with you, we have already had our first snow, freeze, and melt here in NW Oregon. My cows didn’t like and all I can say is KEEP THE MELT ON—-
I used to love the snow until I had to be out in it twice a day or more to milk and take care of the chickens and two years ago we got 4 feet, thats right count them 1 2 3 4. I was so BLESSED my husband had ALL KIINDS OF 4 wheel drive rigs. He put a crest on the hill below the house and sure enough the neighbor slid right into it the same night. We have a short cliff behind that also. We have to haul water to All the animals and it takes a while, so I have NO COMPLAINTS over the rain and mud.BLESS ME WITH MORE RAIN LORD.
Suzanne, I am loving ALL your posts. How is the RESTING going???? Are you getting any?

Too late for the locusts but those danged Asian beetles (AKA stinky biting ladybugs) may move in, if not already done so.

Northern Pennsylvania was totally drenched in pouring rain since yesterday. It literally poured solid all night. Then about noon today it started pouring down sleet …then switched to snow. I believe the locusts are due any minute!! What strange weather! AND, I wished for winter??? What was I thinking???
Oh, and all through the poury rainy-sleety-snowy thing, my chickens stand out in the chicken yard looking for all the world like drowned rats! These are the guys who ran screaming into the hen house in the hot scorching summer heat when I tried to sprinkle them with a hose?? You’d thought I tried to kill them they carried on so!! Do they go in their nice dry hen house with fresh straw?? NOOOOOO! We have to stand there looking drowned! DUHHHHHHH!!! I think they need therapy!

We had heavy rain, wind and sleet, and I spent a very long time trying to find a road out of Albany NY that was not either closed or clogged with cars dowsed into immobility by the deep puddles. Sometimes Mother Nature is …. a mother….
