Small Town Postcard

Spencer, West Virginia, in the snow. Spencer is the “big” small town in our county, the county seat. The entire county has a population around 15,000, so big and small are relative terms…… Our little town of Walton, where I live, has a population of several hundred. A trip to Spencer is almost like going to THE BIG CITY!!!!

Ah!!! Great shot of my hometown! Sometimes I miss the place. Love your blog, thank you for sharing your life with us.

  2. Marla says:

Walton is several hundred people. Oh, you live by a big town!! The town I live by is 88 people, and I assume when they do the census count it will be less than that. The highest population I remember is 160.

  3. Tracey In Paradise,Pa. says:

:woof: How awesome I want to live there!!
    Hugs, Granny Trace

  4. CindyP says:

I drove through West Virginia several years ago on my way to Georgia. I thought West Virginia was beautiful.

  6. Julie Wriston says:

I enjoy seeing pictures of West Virginia. I’ve visited there a few times with my in-laws. My father-in-law is from W.V. Beautiful small town!!

It looks like a cozy place. I love small town livin’ myself…but I also enjoy reading the adventures of you Farm Gals! :sheep:

  10. Elaine says:

I never realized how close you were to my Alma mater, West Virginia Wesleyan College. No wonder I get homesick when I see your pictures. Most of my college roommates came from small towns in WV. Love the state, love the people. Thanks for sharing.

  11. ScreamingSardine says:

My small town is all of 50 people.

  12. Michele Messier says:

That’s a nice picture of your big, little city. The city of Santa Clara where I live has a population of 120,000 people, way too many! I would love to live in a small town. I was thinking of Shelter Cove up in Northern California when I retire in about 10 yrs. :airkiss:

  13. Karen says:

That is a beautiful photo – but it makes this Florida girl feel cold just looking at it! Brrrrrr

  14. Deborah R says:

Wow, it’s crowded in your county!

Our county – Ritchie – has 10,308 (counted ’em myself…not!) fine folks. The town I live in has a whopping 1,155 people (give or take – it’ll be interesting to see the census results).

    Now, the deer population….

  15. Gert Hubbard says:

Deer?????The other morning I was coming in from town home, and I counted 13 deer and 14 turkey….Havent seen the bear to count yet, but hear there are about 4………
Love the small town postcard. Love reading your stories..Thank you for opening up your heart and sharing your life with us..

  16. Beth says:

Love the picture! I grew up in Pinch and have been to Spencer many times. I now live in a city of over a million people and oh how I miss small town life!!

  17. SuzieQ says:

Absolutely lovely photo. On trips via Amtrak, from NC to Denver, the views of small towns were wonderful…especially when snow coated. :woof: :woof:

  18. Nancy in Iowa says:

Beautiful! In August I moved from an Atlanta suburb to a rural town in Iowa – we have just under 3000 people – and I love it here! I never want to live in a major city again – in fact, I would prefer this size!!!

  19. kerri says:

The snowy town of Spencer makes a pretty postcard.
The tiny village we live near probably has only about 200 people. We’re about 30 miles from the nearest city.
This morning I watched our resident flock of wild turkeys feeding across the road along the hedgerow. The males were displaying…a sure sign of spring! :chicken:

  20. Dreamer says:

My city alone has nearly 1/2 million people in it and the entire metro area is over 2 million! I’d love to live in a small town, but even on the edge of a large city like mine, I get to enjoy seeing deer, turkey, horses and cattle on my daily commute. Sometimes other creatures too. You just have to be on the lookout and look for things to enjoy.

  21. Linda says:

If there were a few people and animals in this photo, it would look just like a drawing by Charles Wysocki!
