The Beulah Petunia Report

Beulah Petunia, in her lounge. She enjoys this spot between the creek and the fence/road where she lounges under the trees. Sometimes she stands instead of lounging. Sometimes she even stand in the creek.

She always looks very calm, cool, and collected. Cows are serene.

As for the report–she is successfully dried off! I followed Nelson’s advice. Having gotten her down to a half-gallon per day, I just stopped milking her. And it worked. And she is fine. I’ve checked her regularly. She hasn’t been milked now in over a week and she’s doing just fine! She didn’t blow up or anything!

We’re just waiting for baby now……

Enjoy your vacation from milking, Beulah Petunia anyway. I guess you will start on Clover soon enough. :cowsleep:

It’s a vacation for you and for Beulah! Everyone should have a vacation in August, IMHO.

I am so pleased that she did not “blow up” but seems instead to be enjoying her vacation. :moo:

I have dried Holstein cows when they were still giving 45 lbs of milk daily….no problems at all.

My cow now has ,not two, but three calves nursing her in between my milkings. She is giving more this lactation than before even in the heat.

I have been having hand and wrist ‘issues’ so they may continue to nurse her.
