As if the rest of the animals weren’t causing enough trouble, the sheep went to work yesterday when Miss Jacob escaped while we were trying to put the rogue lamb back.
Today is a major work day here. That sounds funny since every day is a major work day here, but today is especially set aside and the children relieved of their social lives to devote themselves to outdoor farm labor. ALL DAY. They’re very excited. Meanwhile, I’m roasting a turkey and putting dressing in the oven.
Old-Fashioned Cornbread Dressing, set to meld flavors overnight before baking.
I like to cook “Thanksgiving” dinner numerous times throughout the year. I think it’s too good to just have once. You? (I stopped short of making pumpkin pie.) I fixed most of the meal in advance so that we could work all day and come inside to a lovely dinner. (I’ll pretend the maid cooked it!)

Love love love Thanksgiving – any time of year. We just had it again in July. Oh and the leftovers? Best part and last all week. Your dressing looks delish – we prefer oyster tho’ – if I don’t make it no one will eat any other kindH. Have a great day!

I completely agree that the Thanksgiving meal should be served numerous times throughout the year but I would have to have the pumpkin pie too. That dressing looks delicious.

I know what you mean. Whenever I fix turkey on Sundays my Grandson comes in the house and says”Oh Boy! Thanksgiving!” We like the cornbread dressing too! I think it is more moist.

Does the maid clean it up, too?

CindyP says:
No, that would be the cook that prepared it while you were out…the maid should have the rest of the house cleaned while you’re out farming. And all those farm hands…they’ll whip the farm into shape in no time flat!
Well…it’s nice to dream…. LOL!

Our favorite meal! Nothing like those leftovers. Now I want a hot turkey sandwich smothered in gravy with stuffing on the side and a big mess of green beans!

Suzanne, I just love the way your brain works ~ I always enjoy your posts. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one having these little “adventures” and somehow manage to find humor in them. Er, most of them. And yes, Thanksgiving dinner is too good to only have it once a year.

After my daughter moved and got married, they came home for a visit. I asked her what she would like me to make for dinners. Her first request was even though it was summer, could we have “thanksgiving”! I wasn’t able to do it for her this time around but hoping when I go and visit her next, I can show her in her home (even though it changes every three years since she’s an Air Force wife)

I love thanksgiving year round. Those rascaley animals never seem to mind putting you to more trouble – I know mine don’t anyway.

There are only four of us in this household for Thanksgiving. (This year may be five) My point is, that I get the biggest turkey I can find to make for Thanksgiving day. Then I make all the trimmings, way more than a family of four needs. We pig out for days (weeks) after. I usually buy a second turkey at that time and throw it in the freezer for an encore dinner when I feel the need for a lovely fall Thanks Again dinner.

:pinkbunny: Oh yeah, turkey dinner on Sunday and leftovers during the school week. Do it all the time. Your dressing sounds absolutely fantastic — I’m going to make it with meatloaf.

I actually fixed Turkey and dressing with all the fixings myself last Tuesday. I have been brining my turkeys lately and love the way they turn out. So moist and tasty. I stopped short of the pumpkin or pecan pies. Really a reasonably priced meal, and so yummy.
