This cat wants in the house really badly.

It’s Spice, the door-opening cat, who lets Coco and Boomer and the Crooked Little Hen in to play poker at the dining room table.

I don’t want her in the house.

And she’s driving me crazy! She’s a little persistent.

OMgosh!!! I have one of these too. He has torn and snagged my screens something awful. He is the same color as yours too. Maybe this is a rare breed of cat, lol.

  2. SandyCWV says:

Hmm, I wonder if it is the color? We had a black and white cat like that named Brandy. She would jump up and hang on the wooden frame around the windows of the basement door, which led directly into our family room. She would look at us from there saying “Feed Me Now”. I had to put a curtain up and she still did it. At least we knew when she was there rather than put food out and the dogs eat it first. I miss that cat.

  3. Judy D says:

Spray her with water from a spray bottle. Soon she will be afraid of the spray bottle, leave it where she can see it and she won’t climb anymore……maybe. 😆

  4. Miss Becky says:

oh dear. she’s an outcast. she will shred your screens you know. something must be done. is she cold? has she been in the house before and now not welcome? or maybe she just wants in on a game of poker.

  5. farmershae says:

Nice! I Gafawed at work! What a cat!!! I have to remember NOT to get a cat that color!!! The Bicolored Virginian Wall Walker…. 😆

  6. Diane Gordon says:

Cats face terrible fates when left out in the wild. Be kind and responsible and let them in the house.

  7. Ang. says:

I have a cat like that. He has managed to ruin every screen on our first floor windows multiple times this summer. I hope you have better luck!

  8. lauren says:

Haaaaa!! she is one determined kitty 🙂

  9. Estella says:

I am cat sitting a cat like that. She is shredding my patio door screen!

  10. skippymom says:

I have a squirrel that does this every morning – without benefit of a net – there is nothing below my window where I sit and it scares the crap out of me. [He wants crackers – and lets me know by adhering himself to the window.]

If she is allowed in the house but kept outside because of the door opening trick may I suggest bungy cording the door shut? We have to do this with our bathroom doors because our Chessie head butts the doors open to drink our toilets dry. You just need something next to the door to wrap around one end while securing the other end around the base of the doorknob. It is easy to open in flash if you have opposable thumbs – not so much if you are a cat.

  11. Diane says:

LOL. That cat wants in and have her friends in too. Get one of those child proof things for the door handle that keep kids from opening the doors. Or a cat door so she can go in and out. Although crooked little hen might discover how to get in though the cat door. lol.

I think she might ruin your screens if she keeps this act up for long. I might consider moving her down into the goat yard to live in the shelter with the goats.

  12. Ruth says:

I agree… cats left to their own devices will be killed by a predator if abandoned outside. I know it’s a FARM thing.. so sadly she will probably die an awful and horrifying death.
    PLeeeease let him in!

  13. Cheryl LeMay says:

Some cats want to be indoor cats and others would rather be outside. But they should be one or the other, not both.Let her in and keep her in-and clip her claws!

  14. Brenda E says:

Poor Spice – let him in – make him promise not to open the door any more and let him sit in on the poker game. I have a cat named Taz. I let him out every morning on my gated patio. He never jumps over the fence and just wants to get out and case out the porch to make sure no other cats have been there. When he wants in he’ll hang on the screen door also until he gets in. I have no problem letting him in because he’s basically a house cat anyway. We have so many coyotes roaming around that I would never let him roam. And yes, he has put some holes in the screen – Darn cat.

    Cute picture!

  16. Vicki in So. CA says:

I agree with 7 and 14. Sad to say, I’ve lost too many cats by letting them outside – to coyotes. It took me a while to wake up and keep my cats in. The bungee cord, or child latch would most likely work to keep her from opening the door.

  17. Leanna says:

That is awesome! I wish they would also pay for the screens they ruin too, though. We’ve got a few that need replacing from the neighborhood kitties!

  18. Tina says:

Oh brother! Sounds like many of us have, or have had, a cat like this! I agree with Judy D.–try a spray bottle! I live on a farm and there ARE coyotes around but my outside kitties have plenty of places to hide so no casualties. I provide a good life for my animals, inside and out, so I don’t agree that it’s irresponsible to make them stay outside. If good shelter and food are provided there is no need to feel guilty about not letting them inside your house! Just my two cents!

  19. Carol says:

Why don’t you want her in the house? I have always been a cat lover, but have avoided the ‘responsibility’ since my last one died…until now. I have taken a lovable female who needed a home. She’s a lot of company for me, but she does leave her fine hair on the carpet. I have a question for you cat people out there. I’ve been told I should not give Emmy milk, raw eggs, raw chicken or tuna. She has a bowl of dry food which is her main diet. I only give the other foods once a day or so. I researched online and got conflicting answers. Now I want to know what real people do. Thanks.

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Carol (and everyone else), I do let my cats in the house. They are indoor-outdoor cats and they are safe and well on the farm, enjoying being farm cats. I don’t want them in the house all the time, though. I have ten cats.

I’ve never even thought of giving my cats raw eggs, so I have no idea about that!
