I figured out where the trash sticker goes here–on the telephone pole! And in fact there is a December sticker (with this address) on there, so they already paid for this month. I’m sure the trash people are happy since I paid for December, too. Does that mean I get to put out twice as much trash?
Morgan, getting off the school bus, and my newly-filled trash cans.
There were these three trash cans sitting out there by the mailboxes when I moved in. Since some other people get their mail here, I wasn’t sure who the trash cans belonged to. There is also a trash “pen” there that does belong to someone else and has their address on the side.
The trash cans kept sitting there, day after day, then over a week. And nobody seemed to be using them. Finally it occurred to me that the trash cans might be another gift left behind to me from the previous owners. I’m fortunate to have the email address of one of the previous owners so that I can contact them with questions. I asked if these were “my” trash cans. Well, yes, yes, they were! These are the best previous owners in the history of previous owners. I didn’t own any trash cans. But now I do! I have three! So I filled them right up and cleared the trash out of the cellar. Wonderful!

Morgan getting off the school bus – what no basketball practice? I thought she played. To bad if she isn’t. You would have had so much fun having a better drive to the games! :woof:

Suzanne, are you allowed to have a “burn barrel” there? A good way to get rid of all the paper and other burnable trash.
We can’t have one here anymore, but we can have an outdoor fireplace, so a friend just cut his barrel in half and now has two fire rings to use!
And, you are so lucky to have the best previous owners!
DH and I have really enjoyed reading all about your new place and what you are doing to fix it up. LOVE the bedroom! And your comment about the pink walls!

Isn’t it a wonderful thing when we can appreciate something like trash cans being left by Previous Owners? I am SO happy for you, Suzanne… I was so worried, and now every post-reading comes with a BIG smile! YOU GO GIRL!
My 22 YO son closed on his first house today, and his previous owners left behind most of the living room and dining room furniture. (They told him the dining room furniture was custom made for the room, so they didn’t really have a place to put it in their new house!) He asked me if that was normal, and I assured him it wasn’t! So, he too is finding joy in what Previous Owners have left behind… I wonder if he has a trash can there? LOL

I have been out of the country too long. These posts take me right back to my childhood. Where I grew up, there was no trash service. Burning the trash was often a kid’s chore.

Suzanne: First of all, love your posts, love your new home, just love, love, love! ๐ The post about the propane gas was so interesting to me, I’ve been telling anyone about it that will listen! Free gas is crazy! ๐ I’m a Minnesota native, but live in Wisconsin, and free propane would be the most awesome thing in the world during the winter!
I’d love to ask question after question, but today I just have one…in the photo above with Morgan getting off the bus, is the road a one-lane road? It looks so small! What happens if the bus meets another vehicle! I’ve never been in WV, or any further South than Missouri, so forgive my ignorance! ๐

Amy, yes, it’s a one lane road. If you meet another car on the road, you pull over the best you can. There are some places on one lane roads where it’s difficult, depending on the terrain, and you have to find a good spot even if one of you has to back up. ๐ Most rural roads in West Virginia are one lane roads. Only main roads have a dividing line and two lanes.
Re the gas, it’s natural gas, not propane! (There’s a difference.)

Trash sticker? I’ve never heard of that. Here where I live, we pay quarterly but no sticker is involved. My friend who lives in another town pays monthly, but it’s included in the water bill. In Florida, where my dad winters, the trash is included in the property tax bill.
Interesting how different places do things differently!

@brookdale – Sorry but burning household trash is illegal in WV.
Suzanne – You only have to pay the trash bill once a quarter.
Have a great day tomorrow, Suzanne! Talk to you soon!

So funny about the trash cans. lol. The things we take for granted sometimes. I think one thing I could not live without is trash service. We go though times of cleaning out and its so nice to see it hauled away. lol.

Suzanne, I don’t see any neighboring places….do you have any in ‘hollerin’ distance?
Our previous owners even took every single light bulb out of the house! even the closets.
Just another sign this lovely little farm was meant to be yours.
