We Are Here

Aug

As soon as we got here, I had to go “find Ross” –or, you know, just sort of stalker-ishly drive by the Navy base.

I didn’t see Ross! I told him to be looking for us yesterday!

But, we will see him today at graduation!

Chicago traffic.

Morgan took that picture. I was driving. And kinda missing our little rock-dirt road right about then.

This will be a busy, exciting day, but I will post some photos from graduation here for you tomorrow– Ross has a curfew, so I will have some time after we have to take him back to base.

Did I mention that graduation is today? TODAY! I get to see my sailor today!

Congratulation for making it thru Chicago Traffic! I absolutely hate Large Town Traffic being the small town girl I am!

Today will be a FANTASTIC DAY for you and yours!!!

  3. Nancy in Iowa says:

Aw oh – I’ve had time to think about what I wrote. Maybe you DON’T want Ross to talk like a sailor…… :pirate:

And I’m with Blessings in Michigan – after a year in rural Iowa, I would probably totally freak back in Atlanta traffic!!!

  4. Sonia says:

Congradulations!!! Happy and excited for all of you. Looking forward to the pics and you all have a safe trip back home.

  5. Deanna says:

Yup, that doesn’t look like your farm at all! Hope all goes well with the graduation. Weather looks brutal — the sailors will be fine, but I hope they give the audience some shade!

    Congratulations!

  8. northcountrygirl says:

A GREAT BIG “GOOD JOB!” to Ross. Congratulations!! Take care in that traffic. Have a great time with Ross and a safe journey back home. Oh, and “GOOD JOB!” to you too, Mom!! You did a fine job of raising that terrific young man!

Having been through two (Army) graduations myself, I know how proud and excited you are feeling right now. I wish I was still living there only so I can show you some nice sights. Tho, seeing the Chicago traffic I’m glad I’m not. That I don’t miss a bit.

  21. Nancy says:

Oh, Suzanne, I know just how you feel! My daughter graduated from Great Lakes Naval Academy about two years ago. I remember that almost crazed desire to see her. It’s so hard, being the mom and knowing that they’re go through hell while they’re there. It changes them forever. I definitely found that my daughter had a new found appreciation and deeper love for her family, and a calm sense of pride in herself. Both pretty good benefits of boot camp.

(It’d still like to SHOOT them for what they put my Beautiful Baby Girl through!)

    😉

  22. mary kellogg says:

:woof: Congrats to Ross! Give that sailor a big hug for me!

Suzanne, your excitement is palpable. thanks for the great photos of the naval station and skyline. You drove in from the south and I don’t usually get to see the skyline from that viewpoint. yeah, the air looks pretty bad from the photo, and it has been unbearably hot here. Have a great day! Congrats to Ross!!!

It’s a good that you found out exactly how to get to the base. I always try to do a “dry run” if I have to be at a “certain place” at a “certain time”. Now you can drive right to it without getting lost. I know you all can’t wait to see Ross again.
:happyfeet: :happyfeet: :happyfeet: :happyfeet: <—-This is Ross and his fellow graduates….marching.

  30. Nancy says:

AH!!! You’re bringing back my excitement from that day! I have some of those same exact pictures! My son had until 9p.m. the night after graduation…then he had to leave for S.C. the next morning. I certainly hope you have more time with Ross!

  31. Cate says:

    Congratulations Ross!

  32. Marianne G says:

Thought about you early this morning, I know how excited you must be today! Got chill bumps when I opened your blog just thinking about what this day means for you and your family! Anchors Away!

  33. Kris Sherrill says:

Suzanne, that is so exciting! A sailor son. I hope ya’ll have a great time. And my hubby drives a truck. He goes to Chicago alot. Just imagine driving in that traffic in a big ole 18-wheel truck. I went with him once up there. Lots of cars. I was ready to get back home too! Be careful and have a great time.

  34. Luann says:

Congratulations Ross! Suzanne enjoy today! I have 2 sons in the military, army and marines….they both went to Iraq (one twice), they are home now, yea! and the training they receive is fabulous, their maturity levels have blossomed. I didn’t want them to join originally but I am grateful they did and for all the military members and families for their sacrifices. Enjoy your time and I will pray for a cool breeze.
