Getting in the mood for Thanksgiving yet? It’s time! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it involves so much food and you don’t have to worry about a bunch of presents! It’s just ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. If you haven’t gotten your cranberry sauce made yet, you better get started. You can do it homemade, in advance, by canning it. (You don’t have time to make homemade cranberry sauce Thanksgiving week. You’ll be too busy with pies!) You can find my cranberry sauce recipe here–and be sure to read the comments on that post for lots of great flavor variation ideas. You can also get the recipe on Farm Bell Recipes here and save it to your recipe box.

I’m with you Suzanne, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday also. I love all the food and no worry about presents. I always do Thanksgiving dinner at my house with my sister and daughter bringing their special dishes. My sister and I do not believe it is a Thanksgiving dinner without cranberry sauce. I’ll check out your recipe. I always try to make a new dish for Thanksgiving. Thanks to you, I will have several to serve. I love your website!!! Thanks again for being an inspiration. BBB

  2. Michelle says:

Yes; please enter me for a BBB. I’ve never made cranberry sauce, but if I did it would have to be the fresh ground cranberry-orange relish my mom made; YUM!

I love homemade cranberry sauce, and since there are only 9 of us for Thanksgiving dinner, it’s easy to make enough for everybody at the last minute. Since cranberries are only available in the grocery store at this time of the year, I stock up and freeze them to use all year long. Love cranberry muffins! BBB

  14. windspiritwhimsies says:

  16. texwisgirl says:

One of my earliest chores as a young girl was to stand on a chair in front of the stove, stirring the cranberries in the boiling water and squishing them against the side of the pot as they cooked. Looking back, it was probably not the safest job for a pre-teen, but when you’re the youngest of 8 kids, there’s got to be a job for everyone! You brought back a lot of memories with that one photo. 🙂

  29. Merlin says:

BBB please! And thank you! 😀

  30. Drucillajoy says:

I always make my own also from the fresh berries from the store & cook them as it says on the back of the bag. Then put them thru the food mill & then chill them in my vintage glass Ocean Spray jar mold. Unmolded upside down on a plate, it looks so pretty. It makes me wonder though, for those that just HAVE to have the store bought jelled stuff with the lines on it, why you couldn’t just make them yourself & put them into the same size can so they would have the lines on it…or would this be lieing?
I like to have a couple of extra bags of cranberries in the freezer for other uses throughout the year. My favorite being a Cranberry~Raisin pie…..mmm~mm.
I am curious…where would anyone purchase a quantity of cranberries? The small bags sold in the produce department are just a bit expensive to buy to be able to can a batch of sauce or relish or pie filling…I’d love to be able to have my own canned cranberries anytime!
