Making a Mess

For weeks recently I went off on this crazy tangent where I was trying to come up with my own cheese recipes and for that reason, and a few others, none of my cheeses were working out. Then I had a lightbulb moment and decided to follow a recipe and my next cheese came out just perfect. (Amazing!)

I have a tendency to do the same thing with craft ideas. I’ll see something somewhere, or just get an idea out of the blue, and then I’ll try to make up my own pattern. Sometime this actually works out, but sometimes not. Yesterday was one of those days when I struggled all day with some nutso idea I had and at the end of the day I was thinking, Suzanne, maybe you should try following a pattern sometime.

It involved corn husks, tea-stained muslin, and hand-sewn stars.

Total failure. I’m not even going to tell you what I was trying to make.

I bet the puppy would like those hearts as chew toys. Yeah. That’s it. I WAS MAKING CHEW TOYS!

What a relief. I hate it when things don’t work out!

I can’t think of a better use for a fun little experiment! Your puppy looks like he(she) is really enjoying your work.

  2. Michelle says:

Well the heart thingy must have been something really good because those pictures are priceless! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Melissa says:

I am with you on that one! I could have written that very post myself. Minus the hearts. Mine were stars. What’s a, r e c i p e?

  4. CindyP says:

๐Ÿ˜† Been there!!! But at least it was something the puppy could chew on…I still have failed projects hanging around, because I’m sure I can still save it SOMEHOW! ๐Ÿ˜†

  5. Diane says:

I do stuff like that all the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. lol. At least the puppy got some enjoyment out of the stars. lol.

:snoopy: Hey the stars are cute ornies, I make them at christmas time and put them on my tree or give them as prim. gifts you can also tie homespun on the ends and tie them to christmas lights to hang up or sprnkle some cinnamon on them and use them for bowl fillers makes the room smell good and makes a purdy decoration. And then again I guess you can use them for chew toys puppy did look like he enjoyed it. :happyflower:

I think your chew toy project came out perfectly! (wink, wink!)
    The puppy certainly looks satisfied.

  8. Glenie says:

Funny sounds like some of my projects – take and idea and change it to my own creation

  9. Deb says:

Cute! I know how you feel about just having to try something new.

Glad it all worked out and the moving puppy pic are looking goooood.

  10. northcountrygirl says:

Don’t feel bad. I do that a lot. Start working on a specific project and end up making something totally different. Like the time I started a knitted handbag and ended up with a beautiful handmade bowl that sits on my living room table. Don’t ask how that happened but it was a mistake that turned out really neat. I love the bowl and use it. That ‘s what really matters.

  11. Linda says:

    Haha. Success! Congratulations! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Susan at Charm of the Carolines says:

How adorable is that puppy? Until, of course, when he died of what? Heat exhaustion? Being smushed under the rocker? He’s even adorable in his corpse pose.

  13. rileysmom says:

Obviously puppy-boy was impressed with your efforts!!

  14. Gen says:

Oh my goodness that Casper is ADORABLE!!! I don’t miss the work of a puppy but darn, they sure are fun and cute. I do miss their enthusiasm and lust for even the simplest of things – like crafty mess-ups. Great job on the photos of the rolling puppy too, impressive.

  15. Kacey says:

Nice of you to go to that much effort for the chew toys! ๐Ÿ˜†

  16. JenW!~ says:

Oh what a clever idea. Never would have thought of using corn husks to make toys. Sure looks like puppy is enjoying it.

  17. Jennifer Robin says:

Puppies are so insanely cute. Take all the pictures you can of that goofy, tubby little rascal. That adorable puppy stage is over before we know it!
